Pope: We Are Sticking Together

(Soccer365.com) - U.S. defender Eddie Pope insists the 2006 World Cup team will avoid going the way of the 1998 squad, which somewhat turned on each other after an opening loss.

The ‘Nats are trying to regroup from a 3-0 loss to the Czech Republic on Monday, and the veteran believes they can because of their unity.

“I think in '98 we started pointing fingers immediately, and this team doesn't do that at all,” he told reporters.

“We all believe in each other and we all believe that we can regroup and move forward - in '98, it was a little bit different.”

We'll see on Saturday guys.

Eddie Pope is terrible along with the rest of the USA national soccer team. donovan has a humongous receding hairline to. i mean come on its huge.

This team is terrible. The players are lackluster, play poorly in offense, defense, and midfield, and Arena cannot do anything more. We need new blood, and we need people (citizens) to stand up and demand more. The countries that win have winning expectations - we should have winning expectations at this point. I was born and raised in the US, and have played for over 30 years - stop this 'still developing' crap. We're here, and there is a lot of us.

Eddie pope is not good you're are right about that zak, but what does landon donovans hair line have to do with his ability to play soccer/football. Arjen robben has a huge receding hairline as well and he was a star for holland in their opening match. So its completely rediculous how you judge players how they look.

robben didnt pass the ball at all

we all know that the US will never do as good as other countries until our country starts taking football seriously. we have to many other distractions that we cannot focus on our football. in other countries football is all there is. you start out when you come out of the whom. here its second class. were never going to be were the rest of the world is at this rate. the US will not beat Italy. Italy played really well.

C'mon TEAM-USA! yes it was a LACKluster performance, & although other countries may haved played worse, where was our hearts? desires? guys, coaching young kis is a priveledge & joy, & I tell them: Don't wait!, move the ball up! go towards the goal to SCORE! Basic concepts team USA failed to do. Bruce, get the guys in the beautiful game.

landon may have a receding hairline but zidaine is balding

Let's focus on the Saturday 's game.
Good luck USA !

Overwhelmed, out-played, underacheived are just some of the descriptives that come to mind. You can't say that this team is not expected to win games. They were beaten soundly by a team that outranked them. That happens in sports. Beating that team would have been a shock to the world (similar to last WC against Portugal). New blood? How much newer can Jones, Anye and a host of others be? Landon is still a spring chicken as is the majority of the team. There are only three starters that can be considered veterans.

The US team looks like a high school team playing WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. We were seriously over-ranked.

What "we" Americans forget is that we ARE American. Although we are a population made up of people from countries around the globe, we live in the United States. We should not lose focus on the point that the World Cup is about having pride in one's nation. Take pride in where you live and keep faith! I am an American and truly believe the US team can and will beat Italy. Like Cata said, we got beat by a team that outranked us...

Yes, the US played a bad match so what! I would like to see the people spouting all the negative feedback do their jobs under the pressure these players performed under. The truth is on any given day, any team in the world can lose a match and perform poorly. I say give these guys and their coach a break and let them show us that the game on Monday was a one time occurance. They WILL rise to the occasion and play with the spirit that made this country great. However, win or lose it is our resposibility to hold our players up not degrade them....

GO USA !!!! GOD BLESS THE USA! YOU CAN DO IT!
THE FIRST GAME WAS LOST SO WHAT?

Todd, i am a huge US fan, but how can you say so what? This is the world cup, it only comes every four years. The US was completely embarrassed and if they don't get a result against italy, bye bye Germany.

Get a new coach.

I was born in the US and have played soccer for 33 years (yes, California). Why is it that the American mind set is, "If there is not enough scoring, it's boring and if we're not #1 we suck"? There is beauty in the middle of the field. The mature soccer fan knows that. As to winning, the Czech's were in our face any time we got close to the ball, which forces quicker decisions (many not so good). It's not just that we played poorly, but the Czech's were working so hard that we looked weak. I hope for a better result in games 2 and 3, but enough of the thrashing. It's okay if we don't bring home the trophy, enjoy the games.

I think eric cantona should be the us coach. why not get some eroupian experience. probably wont ever happen though.

come on, Saturdays game was GREAT. Nothing lackluster about that !!

That’s not just logic. That’s raelly sensible.
