well i say france-italy final. look, germany isnt as almighty as everyone says, they had no competition in the group stage, and sweden can be a very disorganized team. They only had to fight argentina whom they genuinely strugged against. France has played top competition (with the exception of togo) from the start. they are gaining momentum, and their midfield is absolutely stacked. Italy has no real weakpoints except possibly the match-fixing scandal is providing distractions, and portugal will be easily snuffed out-- only big phil is keeping them going

Why is everybody writing off portugal?? Monty g, you are absolutely wrong about portugal!! Them and France play the prettiest football out of the four teams left. Plus they are getting back Deco, one of the best center midfielders in the world. With Deco playing with Figo, Pauletta, and Ronaldo in the attack, why would anybody just write off portugal??? in my opinion France and Portugal should be the final, but im gonna say Italy and Portugal in the final.
And another thing why is it so hard to believe brazil is out of the tournament, they played terrable and im not suprised at all its an all European final four. South America has only two power house teams being brazil and argentina, and Europe has atleast 7 very strong teams, so it is no suprise to me having an aall european final four. Italy has not yet been challenged by a strong team (except maybe Czech) but that is no reason to write them off against Germany. There's no way Germany's Klose's getting anything past Buffon who has proved to be an exceptional keeper this tournament. Germany has only played one good team; that being Argentina, and in my opinion were outplayed. Lehman, however, did great in the pk shootout. Anyway, I say 2-0 to Italy. As for the Portugal/France game, Ronaldo has already been playing beautifully and is going to put away at least 2 goals on Bartez. The Zidane and Figo matchup will surely be exciting though. We will see Italy and Portugal in the final.

You may be right that Italy have not been challenged by a strong team, but they have in fact been challenged to the fullest by two teams that are not truly considered strong teams in this field, the US and Australia. Say what you will about the US/Italy game, it was a bizarre one thanks to the officiating, but the fact remains that they could not find a way to win that match even with a man advantage. Then in the Australia match, it took a total gift by the referee in the 95th minute to give Italy the win from the penalty spot in a game they looked very likely to lose in extra time. Even the Czech Republic is not as impressive a win as one might think, given how depleted the Czech lineup was for that outing. Now that's not to say that I think Italy is an easy out for the Germans by any means, or even that I consider Germany the favorites at this point. It's merely to point out that Italy have struggled along the way and that they can certainly be held in check by solid defending. Germany were not truly tested until meeting Argentina. They narrowly escaped with a win after penalties, but keep in mind that was against an extremely gifted opponent that many favored to win the cup. I think this is going to be a very tight match.

I wouldn't write Portugal off either as Brandon points out, however, I don't think Pauleta has looked himself and Ronaldo may be dangerous, but he hasn't been finding the net with any frequency thus far. Portugal are finding ways to get the job done and they do have quality players, however, they do not have a striker that is in true form, which is usually a characteristic of teams that do well throughout the World Cup. With Henry starting to find form and moving up the golden boot list, Zidane playing like a 24 year old rather than his 34 years, Ribery running everyone ragged, and Viera filling a solid role in the middle, France finally look dangerous. And after knocking Spain and Brazil out in impressive fashion, les bleus are playing arguably the best football in the tournament of late.

I hope for a final Germany-France.

Germany played well, I like them to play offensive (in contrast to the last world and european tournaments :-( ) and hope, they will be able to do it again. The german team is young and unexperienced and in my oppinion they played at the maximum level. But even if they lose the match against Italy, as long as they play well, i am satisfied.

I am fascinated by the france team. They indeed have a run, getting stronger and stronger. They gained selfconfidence and for me they are NOW the favourite for the cup.

Some great comments by all, lets just say any team left has the tallent and ability to win. Whether its Portugal with their experience and a young superstar who gets his club mate sent off to win for his country, whether its France with the aging magician playing as well as hes ever played inwhich will surly be missed, whether its Germany who the hopes of one nation ride on the shoulders of arguably the best center mid in the game, or it be italy who were over shaddowed by a terrible serie a scandle, but now seem destine for glory after a narrow escape and a blow out in the in the last 8. The world couldnt have asked for more even teams in the last 4, hopefully they all can play great that way their wont be any excuses when 3 teams fail to win.

Congratulations to italy for their win against germany. Of course it is some luck to score 2 minutes before the end of overtime but for me the italian team more consequently tried to bring about a decision before the PK and therefore they deserved the win.
First half italy was stronger, second half germany played well and a little bit stronger than italy, but overtime went to italy again due to their greater experience and individual quality. Nevertheless the young german team played a very good tournament.

I predict Portugal to win France.
