Eto'o To Miss Cameroon Friendly
(Goal.com) - African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto'o has beenleft out of Cameroon's squad for next Wednesday'sfriendly against Guinea. Cameroon's Football Association (Fecafoot) said thatEto'o has been excluded because he is touring theUnited States with Spanish champions Barcelona.
Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni was also left outbecause of his side's Spanish Super Cup tie againstBarcelona on 17 August, a day after the Guinea match. "We think Guinea is a good sparring partner forCameroon judging by their impressive performanceduring the last Nations Cup," said acting Cameroonmanager Jules Nyongha. Cameroon have been without a permanent coach sincePortuguese trainer Artur Jorge stepped down inFebruary.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni gave SportsMinister Philippe Mbarga Mboa one week to recruit asuccessor. Both Cameroon and Guinea are using the friendly inRouen, France, as preparation for the 2008 AfricanNations Cup qualifiers, which get underway inSeptember. Cameroon, paired with Rwanda, Equatorial Guinea andLiberia, face Rwanda in Kigali on 3 September.
