United Ship Quaranta To Far Off Galaxy

(Goal.com) - MLS-leading D.C. United sent forward Santino Quaranta to the Los Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday in exchange for a partial allocation and a conditional pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.

The 21-year-old has been beset by injuries during his five seasons with United. Quaranta appeared in only 62 matches -- registering 14 goals and 13 assists -- during his stint with the Black and Red. In 2006, Quaranta has appeared in only four games due to a hamstring injury.

The former U.S. U-17 star saw time with the senior U.S. team during World Cup qualifying and at the 2005 Gold Cup, but he never impressed manager Bruce Arena enough to warrant serious consideration for the 2006 World Cup roster.

“Santino feels the best way for him to progress is with a new start in a different community," said United President Kevin Payne.

Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop was delighted to add Quaranta to his roster. “He is a young, electrifying player who has played internationally and has the potential to add a lot of quality to our team,” said Yallop.

Quaranta will join up with his new team later today in Houston, where the Galaxy have a Wednesday night match with Dynamo.
