Donovan: I’m Happier Here
(Soccer365.com) - Los Angeles star Landon Donovan has proudly stated that he doesn’t even spend time thinking about another move across the pond.
The U.S. attacker has come under fire from some observers for cutting his Bayer Leverkusen stays short when the going got tough, but he insists life is better at home in California.
"I'd probably become a better soccer player just from the day-in, day-out grind of it there," the Galaxy ace told Reuters. "But I wouldn't be a better person. I wouldn't be a happy person."
"I'd be pretty miserable."
"Spain or England might fit my style, but the last time I checked there weren't any teams knocking on the door to get me," continued Donovan. "I'm not going anywhere for a while."
"There are a lot of factors that would go into it: the country, the language, the people, the playing situation… I have no time for going over and trying out and doing things like that - that doesn't interest me."

The reason this Donovan says he's happy in America is he knows very well he's not good enough to play in Europe. This twin of Peter Pan says Spain or England might fit his style. Ha!What a joke like those countries are kicking down the doors of the MLS to beg him to sign a contract. In the world cup in Germany it's true the American team stunk which was do to lack of even basic skills but Peter Pan Donovan here really stunk & he should stay in the MLS League with the other misfits.

I'm not a big fan of the MLS,but I must say that Landon is a good player, definitely one of the best the US has ever produced,I don't see him at Real Madrid,Milan or Manchester U,but he''l do ok with middle-standings team. The MLS has a long ,long way to go.

Though Miro is correct that Donovan had a poor showing in Germany over the summer, perhaps with the exception of the match against Italy, you could also say that of many other quality players. As Tony said, he would do just fine at a mid-level club in Europe.
Read the quote... He wasn't bragging in saying that Spain or England might fit his style. He flat out said that European clubs have not been trying to sign him. He was referring to the fact that he didn't fit the bundesliga in his stint there early in his career. It was disappointing of course, but he was 17 when he signed with Leverkusen. On top of just being very young, that also made him ineligible to play first team football. So he got impatient and went on loan to San Jose. It's a common knock on Donovan that he didn't make it in Europe, but it's really not that surprising when you send a small, technical 17 year old midfielder to play with the 2nd team of a bundesliga club. Bundesliga is widely regarded as one of the most physical leagues in the world, and playing with the reserves is always going include a lot more players that rely on physicality over finesse. So it didn't at all fit Donovan's style of play. England is pretty physical as well, but there is more of a place for technical players and to a greater extent in Spain, which is the point he was making.
Of course it is a disappointing that he didn't succeed in Europe before, but he's still young and perfectly capable of fitting the bill in several European situations. There are plenty of players doing well in Europe that are not as skilled as Donovan, and for that matter, there are several less talented American players making it in Europe right now. It would just be a matter of Donovan really wanting to do it, and the right type of club being interested in him.

donovan is the worst player to play soccer. all he did wat talk that is why usa got elimanted. cause he said they were going to do better than mexico. he should not be even playing mls maybe he should play semi-pro cause she really sucks. that is why he came back form europe casue couldnt handle playing with the big boys

Germany was a bust for Donovan, he clearly didn't belong on the pitch with that group of players. MLS suits his game-right-minor leagues. MLS player need to have pride in their craft and ratchet their performance up, if they expect to build a fan base.

usa fan you dont know what your talking about donovan has more technical skills and physical skills then you will ever have your just jealous he is on aproffesional team and you arent. Even thogh donovan isnt good enough to play against arsenal or even be on arsenal he is better than semi pro and probably mls and is probabl better than most players except for some exceptions and usa fan look i spelled all my words right.retard

lakelandlazer: before u go poppin' off at the mouth about someone, u should really make sure its the right person. "a usa fan" was praising LD, not dissing him. it was "twisters08" that wrote that comment. btw, u suck twisters08. sure LD is not in europe... but he's still a name that everyone recognizes rite? thats what i thought. now unless your name becomes a household name, stfu.

men stop defending that piece of trash. he aint nothin. dont hate because rafeal marquez is playing with barcelona and your little donvan isnt. he needs to stop talking his little mess and at least for once try to play soccer
Posted by: twisters08 | September 21, 2006 04:06 PM
Donovan is not sexy at all. I can't find anything about him attractive at all. He's almost bald too which is not sexy.Marquez is a sexy hunk with a nice tush & I would like to be his wife or life partner.

hey there's not even a reason to talk about this topic because if donavan really thought he had a chance then he would be over in europe trying out for a team but instead he's over in america defending his sorry self by saying he doesn't want to play in europe 'ya right ' who would want to stay and play in the mls only a guy who knows he doesn't have enough skill to play in europe(donavan)

This is one of the most over rated
players ever. It is most unfortunate
that our level of soccer in this country
is so below par that we sight Donovan as
a "world class player".
Spends more time whining than winning.

Donovan didnt lose the world cup by himself. the usa, and any team, cant depend on one player to play good. The whole usa team lost the world cup and even though Donovan is one of the easiest people to blame, he didnt do it by himself.

Donovan it's good your much happier back in America. Europe is much happier too! You should thank your lucky stars that you were able to even ride the bench there as they could have very well been sent to clean up the locker rooms where you really belong.

Donovan has no skill at all. If he can't play in Germany, what makes him think he can play in England. I agree with Raw Head Rex. Stupid decision by a stupid soccer player to go to some mediocre MLS.
