Guti Prepared To Fight For A Place
(Goal.com) - Real Madrid midfielder Guti has accepted that he must start as a substitute following his return from a pre-season injury, but vowed to fight for a starting berth.
"I begin as a substitute," admitted Guti in a press conference earlier today. "Capello has brought in two players who play in my position (Emerson and Diarra).
"Now I want to regain his confidence, and play with some continuity.
However, he insisted that the press should not look for any controversies: "I know that he counts on me (in his plans). It is not necessary to speculate too much (about the starting berth), as only eleven players can play."
He also spoke about Jose Antonio Reyes, the latest arrival: "It is clear from the recent training that he is someone we need. He is skilful and fast, and both Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo can take advantage of his runs to score, and that is what matters."
Guti has not been called up by Aragones for a while now, and among other things, the Madrid man also gave his take on the pressure on Luis Aragones and the national team following yesterday's defeat in Dublin.
"It was a very negative result against a weak team such as Northern Ireland, and it has surprised everyone," he said. "But we have the players to get through this and qualify for the European Championships."
However, he refused to be drawn on the debate about the coach's future: "His continuity is something personal between him and the (Spanish) Federation, with whom he has a contract. In Spain, there are great coaches who could take his position, but he has all my respect because I believe that he is a great coach."

I always liked Guti but Emerson and Diarra are two tough customers to take a starting spot from.
