Ivory Coast Name Five Locals In Squad
(Goal.com) - Five home-based players have been named in a 30-man provisional Ivory Coast squad by new coach Uli Stielike for the 2008 African Nations Cup qualifier against Gabon in October.
Stielike’s move is to encourage promising home-based talent in a squad that is mostly composed of foreign-based players.
The five home-based players that have been named are goalkeepers Stephane Dimy, Aristide Zogbo and Tiasse Kone as well as midfielder Didier Ya Konan and the defender Bakary Soro.
Ivory Coast are in Group 1 and will be playing their opening group match in October.
Only three teams are in the group and only the top team will qualify for the finals.
