Gunners Fire Early And Often, But Fail To Hit Target
London, England (Sports Network) - It was a frustrating night at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for Arsene Wenger's side as Arsenal dominated the play on its home soil and created a myriad of scoring chances, only to come away with a share of the points against CSKA Moscow.
The Gunners entered the match one point back of the Russian champions after falling 1-0 a fortnight ago in Russia.
Arsenal watched scoring chance after scoring chance go by the wayside and in the end failed to find the back of the net. Moscow, although outplayed for the majority of the match, still has failed to concede a goal in the group stage and stays in the top spot in Group G with eight points, still one ahead of Arsenal.
The first quality chance that Arsenal had to get on the board came in the 17th minute when Gilberto slid a pass from the right flank into the box. Thierry Henry got on the other end of the ball and one-touched it just wide of the right post.
Eight minutes later, the home side was on the attack once again, this time it was Tomas Rosicky and Francesc Fabregas who teamed up for a good opportunity. The duo played a nice 1-2 at the top of the box, with Fabregas picking up the return pass and maneuvering around Moscow keeper Igor Akinfeev. He found himself staring at an open net but fired the ball into the outside of the net from a tough angle.
The best chance of the game came in first-half stoppage time when Henry beat two defenders and dashed down the left wing and into the box. The high-flying Frenchman then slid a pass to Rosicky, who was set up only six yards from goal. With a gaping net staring him in the face, the Czech international promptly fired the ball into the arms of Akinfeev, who was laying on the ground at the near post.
The teams went into the half still goal less, and Rosicky left the pitch with a stunned look on his face.
Moscow's lone chance to snatch all three points came in the 57th. Striker Vagner Love outran defender William Gallas to a loose ball, and then, after shaking Gallas, moved in on keeper Jens Lehmann. The towering German snuffed out the chance though, and kept goose eggs on the board.
The North Londoners continued to press forward and nearly found their much- needed breakthrough in the 64th, as Henry continued to be at his play-making best. He fired a ball through the face of the goal that just narrowly missed the sliding Robin Van Persie at the back post.
Akinfeev was called upon once again in the 81st when a strong header by Gilberto from 12-yards out was headed into the lower left corner. The young keeper, however, got a hand to the shot with a full-extension dive to keep the game deadlocked.
In the other Group G match on Wednesday, FC Porto downed Hamburg for the second straight time to move into a second-place tie with Arsenal. The Portuguese side earned a 3-1 win at AOL-Arena as Luis Gonzalez tallied just before halftime, and Lisandro Lopez doubled the score line in the 61st before Porto held on for the two-goal win.
AC Milan took a huge step towards qualification for the knockout stage with a big 4-1 win over Anderlecht. Brazilian Kaka had a big hand in the win as his three goals provided the Italian club with a 3-0 lead before the teams traded goals down the stretch. Milan leads Group H with 10 points, and saw its lead increase as second-place Lille suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of AEK Athens. Nikos Lyberopoulos provided the lone tally for the Greek squad, who now sit just one point behind Lille for second.

It must just go with the name. It is a shame Arsenal couldn't finish off CSKA Moscow but everyone has a bad day. Arsenal can still finish on top of their group if they start finishing off the good football they are playing.

Arsenal is lacking an arsenal of good players--save Henry--everybody else on the team reaks
