Dyer Feared For His Eyesight
(Goal.com) - Newcastle United's England international midfielder Kieron Dyer was a relieved man when he made his comeback as a substitute in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Manchester City, because a couple of weeks ago he was scared he might lose the sight in one of his eyes.
The injury-plagued former Ipswich player had only just returned to action following five months on the sidelines when he suffered a freakish training-ground accident.
Dyer, 27, was rushed to a specialist after catching his eye on a pole last month, and said today that at one stage he feared he might be blinded.
He told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: "I thought I had lost the sight in one eye. My sight completely went.
"And when I looked at the doctor's face and he did not want to say how bad it was, I realised it was bad."
Happily, however, his sight eventually returned, and although his eye has not completely recovered yet, the prognosis is that he suffered no permanent damage.
That is good news for both Dyer and Newcastle, who have endured a miserable time with players on the injury front.
