Meola Airs Red Bull Ultimatum
(Soccer365.com) - Veteran New York netminder Tony Meola has informed coach Bruce Arena that he will look for a new team if the #1 job is in question.
"I'm not coming to sit on the bench," he told the Daily News. "I have no interest in that."
"If it's (Arena's) intention to have me on the bench, it doesn't interest me at all."
Meola, who has 250 career MLS starts, lost his starting place to Jon Conway during the playoffs.

Natural progression of a career, a star starter then a valuable backup, if Tony can forsee this for his future, I understand and he's welcome to try and find the best situation for him but at this stage of his career I think this is the only role left for him. Thanks for the memories.

Again Tesoro you amaze me! Most of the time you chime & rant in a bias manner about how great Italy & Italian soccer is but here you must be reading my mind as I have to agree with you. First of all I wonder how old Meola is? Maybe he should be on social security? In a rest home? Who the hell knows? Other than he's up there in age. For a soccer player anyway. He should be glad he's still playing & making decent money. We all age. No way to change that & Arena is just doing what he thinks is best for that team. Get over it Meola! You had your moment in the sun! All things pass! As has you soccer career.
