Barcelona Dominate UEFA 2006 ‘Dream Team’

(Goal.com) - European Champions FC Barcelona have dominated the first eleven that UEFA have chosen as the best hybrid team of 2006.

The Catalan giants have four players and Coach Frank Rijkaard in the ideal unit voted by the European Union of Football Associations' visitors to the organisation's website.

Carles Puyol, Gianluca Zambrotta, Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o are the four Blaugrana players in the list.

Juventus are strictly able to ‘claim’ three if the transferred Gianluca Zambrotta and Fabio Cannavaro are added to Gianluigi Buffon.

Arsenal have two in the shape of ex-Barça junior player Cesc Fábregas and French striker Thierry Henry.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and AC Milan all have one representative each that make up the shining first eleven. But is this really the best line-up from 2006?

UEFA Dream Team 2006 (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)

Defenders: Gianluca Zambrotta (FC Barcelona), Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid CF), Carles Puyol (FC Barcelona), Philipp Lahm (FC Bayern Munich)

Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool FC), Cesc Fábregas (Arsenal FC), Kaká (AC Milan)

Strikers: Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona), Thierry Henry (Arsenal FC) and Samuel Eto'o (FC Barcelona).

Coach: Frank Rijkaard (FC Barcelona).

i think that lampard desirved to be in the best eleven players on the world

Sorry Tony, Lampard did not have a good 2006. He had an outstanding 2005, but he was inconsistent last year. I have no problems with this 11, but I feel Andrea Pirlo could have made it.

Tony,

I bet you like straight to video/dvd c-rated movies as well. Lampard stinks as a player. He's even more overated than Beckham. The only reason Lampard even has a soccer career is because he has an uncle that is very well known & respected as a manager at the professional club level in England that also opened doors for Lampard's Father with small rolls in coaching as well. Lampard would have a difficult time playing in the MLS which is a joke of a league so face the facts! As for Rider's comment about Pirlo. Well Pirlo is not better than any player on that list this is why he didn't make the cut!

Yes Tony here needs to seek out a mental health care profesional. Lampard just Stinks! What Mr. Black said is very true. Politics landed Lampard where he is as far as the sport goes. Lampard is in no way a world class player. As for Pirlo, well, he is but it's just the players selected for this list are a little bit better. Maybe Pirlo will make the grade next year.

Who really cares about this 2006 UEFA Wet Dream Team anyways. I dont.

You see, this is why I get upset and go on my rants. Guys like Barney who have anti Italian things to say when they are uncalled for. Are you telling me that Buffon, Cannavaro and Zambrotta do not deserve to be there. If you beleive that, then you don't know squat about football. We stinking Italians have brought more to todays way of living as much or more than any other culture. So please, I don't want to start getting into race debates with little people like Barney but I will if I have to because I am Italian. Barney the least you can do is reveal which country you are from if you are so much better than us Italians. Prove it to me, justify yourself. If you don't, then shut your mouth and keep your idiotic comments to yourself.

im not sure that its fair to say lampard is garbage and that he belongs in a league like the mls. he has his moments. but he certainly isn't a steven gerrard or cesc fabregas.

Giova I've got you back on this issue with the idiot Barney ....

Who cares what a simple minded fool like this idiot Barney has to say. There is nothing wrong with being Italian & as far as Football goes Italian football & Italian football players are amoung the best. As for Italian culture goes it's left it's mark in a good way all over the world. Notice I said culture as Italy is rich in culture. As for Barney, well, the only so called culture that carries a name like that is America & let's face it there is no real culture in America it's a freak show. You know where your from Giova so theres no need to lower yourself or even answer such idiotic comments from people with major issues like old Barney.

well said, you are right

COME ON GUYS LETS TALK SOCCER.
THIS IS THE RIGHT SELECTION ,ON LAMPARD HE IS NOT UP TO THE LEVEL THIS TIME.
WHY I KNOW BECAUSE AS AN AMERICAN I NEVER WATCH MLS BUT RAI FOX BOTH ENGLISH AND ESPANYOL GOLTV SETANA SPORT TVE EVERY DAY
THANK YOU JUST SOCCER

While everyone is quick to knock Lampard, lets not forget that Ronaldinho is on that list and he also did not have a spectacular 2006. True, his club did win the Champions League, but in retrospect, he did absolutely nothing in the WC, has not produced as much (by his standards) thus far in Spain, and has taken a backseat as the best Brazilian player. If there is one person missing from that list, I would have to say it is Klose or Christiano Ronaldo.

Drogba should be on the top eleven. His size and strength make him a hard assignment for any defender, and his pace and quickness make him near unstopable. He puts his body on the line to score goals and score he does - amazing goals at times. Drogba is the complete attacker. Leaving him off the list is an unexcusable oversight.

hmm.. think about what your sayin about lampard, the guy scores more goals than most strikers and yes, he may be crap for england, but for chelsea, hs as good as anyone, if not better,

That's a pstonig full of insight!
