Buffon is right on mark. Hate to say it, but the only change the MLS will see is an increase in Beckham poster sales as teen girls plaster him to their walls. Maybe some crazed teens at the games... other that that Beckham is making a joke of himself.

Buffon is jelous because he's not being asked to go make motion pictures in Hollywood. I'm sure if some two bit director needs an ape to stand in as an extra for an up coming mob movie out there Buffon will get the nod. I doubt it will be a $250 million contract though.

I think Buffon is right. David is just doing it for the money and hopefully he will start in a movie or two. He knew that at Real Madrid or any other club he would get no playing time so the next best thing for him was to come to america and get 250 mill. Ok i know he was real good at one time, but his days are over as a football player. Yeah he is a superstar but thats all he is nothing else.

Though I don't agree with everything Phil has to say I do think Buffon might be a little bit jelous. I think we all know Buffon is a much much better player than Beckham could ever hope to be but it would have been better if Buffon said nothing at all. Buffon has nothing to prove to anybody & the situation with Beckham should be looked at for what it really is which is typical Hollywood hype that in the long run will sizzle out. I live in Los Angeles & believe me so called stars come & go out here regardless what it is they do. Beckham will raise ticket sales for maybe a year at the most & that's about it. I felt he was overated at Manchester United. He did not belong on the English national team. At Real Madrid he deserved to ride the bench as that team is loaded with talented players much better than he is. Actually I salute Madrid's manager for having the courage to handle Beckham like he has. As for Beckham's coming stint in Los Angeles. Like I said most people out here could care less who's coming to play for who. This whole thing will pass like everything else believe me.

I think Rasputin is correct. There is no reason for Buffon to comment on the Beckham situation unless he is jelous with envy. Everyone knows Beckham is way overated. He was not hired by Los Angeles & the MLS for his soccer skills. He was hired for his global image & the MLS is banking on cashing in on that image. I can see how Buffon & other top flight players might be somewhat insulted to see now that Beckham will be the highest paid player in the world. Do I think Beckham deserves it? My answer is ..No! Is life always fair? Again .. No! Some people are more lucky than others. You have to hand it to Beckham & the people that work for him though as they are able to promote his image to the hilt & get top dollar for it. There's a sucker born every minute & in this case the MLS fits that bill. Get over it Buffon!

I don't think "lost" is the right word for it. Buffon is absolutely right about the media personality part though. The MLS can say they signed Beckham because he's a world class player all they want to, but it's a half-truth. He is (or was) a world class player that is ridiculously famous. So Buffon is right on that account, and that's exactly why Beckham's not "lost". The truth is Beckham found the perfect spot to regain and improve his stardom, bigger than it would have been anywhere in the world, even back home in England.

So Buffon, eh, you're half right. But I don't think he's jealous. It's not like Buffon's life could be bad at all. What's he got to be jealous about...? He's got a lot going for him. Besides, not everyone wants to be super wealthy and super famous like ol' Becks.

All I'm saying is there's more to life than exceedingly large amounts of wealth and fame. Yes, none of us would turn down millions of dollars, but when you're already very wealthy and set for life like Buffon, then why be jealous of someone that's more wealthy?
Maybe I'm giving Buffon a little too much credit for being self-actualized. I thought he was just answering a question on some TV show, and it got turned into a news story. Maybe it does irk him that Beckham is getting all this attention. But in the end, who cares? I was only making the point that Beckham's media vehicle fits well in LA... that he's not "lost" at this stage of career. He is what he is, and he's capitalizing on it.

This whole Beckham situation makes me laugh to be quite honest. I live in the Los Angeles area. Out here the Los Angeles/Hollywood click has it's own weird culture within the American culture. Stars come & go at break neck speed more or less here today gone tomorrow. Beckham being here will increase ticket sales at least for the first year & then after that who knows? Now I'm reading that a large number of top level international players are saying that would like to play here at some point in time. This is where the problem is. For example let's say somebody like Michael Balleck or Cannavaro want to come here to play. Players like these two will expect at least if not more than what Beckham is being paid & why not they are both much better players than Beckham could ever hope to be. The problem for them & lot's of players like them is in America very few people know who they are so they would be hard pressed to get the same kind of money & besides the MLS as a whole might have the money to shell out for one player like Beckham but no way do they have the money to shell out for dozens upon dozens of other high price players like him. Beckham as a player never really impressed me to be quite honest & he was not cut from the English national team for a personality conflict with the manager. There's a reason for everything. Beckham as a player did just enough to become noticed but it's what he's done off the field that really has made him larger than life. I have to hand it to his army of people that look after him. His agents', lawyers' ect ... Those people have earned their money to say the very least. It's sad to say but we live in an age where money has replaced God. We are not judged on what kind of people we are but more on what we have & don't have. Your right Beckham fit's like a glove in the Hollywood hype machine & as Giova said Beckham will be all over the cheap rumur rag's for sometime to come but like everything out here I feel it will pass & it's not going to change things in the MLS or American soccer that much. beckham can't keep up in a top league and knows it. what has beckham done besides market himself. i don't even think beckham can start on juventus in serie B in italy right now. all he has are set pieces and that's it. buffon won the world cup, many league championships, is a millionare, and is married to a model. i really doubt there is jealuosy by buffon. all he did was state his opinion as a person is entitled to.

I Love Buffon, disagree with him on this one,I see however than many footballers see it this way. Beckham is as talented as Ronaldo,Ronaldinho,Zidane,Henry and the rest. He's also a poster-boy and media favorite, he's getting the chance that many athletes can only wish for,he'd be a fool not to take advantage of it. Just so you know. As I hinted at Beckham has not even landed in Los Angeles yet & already his future teamates are resentful about the amount of money he is going to be paid. My view on all this is he's in for a bit of a rough road in the MLS. It might not be the highest quality league in the world but it's a tough one on the old body to say the very least. When you consider Beckham's track record with injury he might be in for his fair share of that in the MLS. Let's put it this way. I really don't think the players in the MLS are waiting for Beckham with open arms but rather taking time to sharpen their studs. I could be wrong but then of course I could be right.

All this about Beckham, Buffon making his idiotic comments. Madrid's owner's & manager making their stupid comments. Beckham fires back & blah blah blah! Who cares? Is it really all that important. It's all a big show. Just some well generated hype to make money at your & my expense. That's all it really is & nothing more. We are expected to shut up, sit back, & enjoy the show! Is Buffon really that wrong? I don't think so. Buffon is the type of guy who calls it like he sees it. A true footballer is one who plays first and foremost for the love of the game. Becks is not going to the US for the love of the game. He's going there for just about everything else. He is a lost footballer in terms of footballing. Buffon did not call him an idiot or something offensive, he merely stated the fact that Becks priorities no longer lie with the game. His main priority is himself, his wife, Tom and Kate. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Its good to look after yourself and your own. Football is no longer #1 for him. Thats all.

If Bafoon was not making the money he is I think soccer would not be a priority for him either. Face it! Buffon is a the best goalie in the world and a world champion. Becks is not the best midfeilder in the world and will never be a world champion. This is what I don't understand. How can people call him jealous? Theres really nothing to be jealous about. Beckham has already become an afterthought in Europe, a joke. Buffon is being courted by teams in Europe such as Man U and Chelsea. Look, maybe he could have used a little more restraint and a little more politically correctness with what he said but when you really think about it, he's pretty much hit the nail on the head.
