Crew Concede McBride Defeat
(Soccer365.com) - Columbus Crew general manager Mark McCullers gave it his best shot, but says he simply could not pry former strike star Brian McBride away from Fulham.
The American Abroad runs out of contract this summer, buit is now expected to sign an extension with the Premiership side he leads in scoring for the second straight year.
The Crew were willing to spend over $1 million in salary to lure McBride, but he has opted to remain at Craven Cottage.
"We were in competition for him," McCullers told the Columbus Dispatch.
"We felt all along that if they decided to get serious about signing him they were going to be able to do it and we were not going to be able to compete."

No surprise. McBride has made an impact on one one the biggest stages in soccer, why go backwards. That's like making the major leagues and begging to be sent down to Triple-A. Not going to happen.

Brian brings more than goals to Fulham. Chris Coleman knows the added value of the intangibles Brian brings with him. His character, work-rate, heart and fortitude are but a few.
