Wenger Asks For Personal Hearing
(Goal.com) - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied a charge of improper conduct and requested a personal hearing.
The Football Association charge relates to the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Portsmouth on 16 December, when he was sent to the stands for the second half after critical comments to referee Steve Bennett.
Wenger disputed Bennett's award of a free-kick in first-half stoppage time from which Pompey took the lead.
He complained to the fourth official at the time, and continued his argument with Bennett down the tunnel.
"I will not accept any charge," said Wenger last month. "It's scandalous."
He added: "I think I am big enough to say when I am wrong and big enough to accept it, but on this particular incident I don't accept what has happened.
"I arrived (in England) 10 years ago and believe me I have seen 10 times worse than what happened on Saturday.
"I complained because I didn't feel it was a free-kick but I didn't use any bad language.
"It didn't disturb me too much and I don't expect to be banned. Do you want me sent to jail?"
Wenger was fined £10,000 in December and warned about his future conduct following his touchline set-to with former West Ham boss Alan Pardew, who escaped punishment for his part in the row.
