Donovan Dismayed By Mexico Snub

(Soccer365.com) - U.S. attacker Landon Donovan was thrilled with the team’s win over Mexico on Wednesday night, but admits he was left cold by their rivals’ continued refusal to shake hands after the final whistle.

El Tri were certainly smarting after dropping their eighth border derby decision in 11 and extending their goal futility in the States to eight games.

“The sportsmanship is … well, it would be nice if you guys and the Mexican press talked about it, because it is really poor,” said Donovan. “They walk off the field and they don’t shake our hands and they don’t want to exchange jerseys.”

“When we lose to them there, I shake their hands and say ‘Good job’, but they don’t reciprocate that and it is disappointing.”

The Peter Pan of US soccer whines again! Why should Donovan care? So what? USA won the game & Mexico's fan got to, well, throw their beer cups with, (warm liquid) in them. Everybody went home happy!

Yeah right on! When these two teams lock horns they should bill it as The battle of the P-Beer Cups. I've never been to a Mexico game but some friends of mine have & I guess it's true they actually put, well, you know, in their beer cups & throw it all over the place. No Thanks! I'll stay home! Just to think people that went to that game & paid high prices for tickets & thats what they get in return. Yuk!

Sore losers always show poor sportsmanship, after bragging about how great their team is and how they were going to beat the US, I expected nothing less than that. For them it's not just a football match, it's pay back for every injustice they have ever suffered in life. We have to move on, because they won't.

I dont blame mexibo for not saying anything after the game. I mean, there game plan was to do nothing so i guess thats what they did afterward too.

I love United States Soccer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad we beat Mexico yet again 2-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is disappointing that they won't shake our hands but we do need to get over it. Some things need to be left unsaid by him, but it was good to see Donovan scoring again, even if the ref started the play...go USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all im saying is no class!!!!!! MEXICO WILL NEVER EVER WIN A WORLD CUP. THEY WONT EVEN BE RESPECTED IN THE SOCCER WORLD!!!!

Neither will the Us.

hey all yall usa fans at least our players stay in europe and dont come back to the MLS crying that we dont get playing time (DONOVAN) we have one a world cup the u-17 so yall americans need to stop hating.

yeah they have won a W.C. that nobody cares. but we will win the real W.C. title and be the first nation in CONCACAF! now what!

USA! whooooooooooo, our time will come!
forza usa!

Sure they do twisters... Ever heard of Borgetti? He is widely known for being a total flop in the EPL with Bolton. He only managed one season in England and then went to Saudi Arabia, which didn't work out either, then back to Mexico. So Mexico's top goalscorer did the same thing Donovan did, tried his luck in Europe, didn't fare well and came home.

Sure, the US has had plenty of players try their luck in Europe and not make the grade, but don't pretend that Mexico hasn't.

wrong again it has nothing to do with luck with US players in Europe. It's due to lack of any real talent. Thats why they fade in Europe. To the moron using the term Forza, when describing US pull your head down from the clouds.

Grady, obviously "try your luck" is a figure of speech...as in they tried to make it in Europe. It's not an implication that luck, or a lack of it, had anything to do with it.

Point is, yes, there are American players that have failed to make it in Europe and returned to MLS, but twisters conveniently forgets that the same can be said of some Mexican players.

US players, Mexican players, all the same, little difference actually. Both countries produce weak national teams & very few players from either country go on to do big things on the international level.

The difference between the two teams is that the U.S. has been getting better over the last 15 years while Mexico is stagnant. Mexico played their "A" team while the u.s. played internat'l rookies. Go USA!!!

You Americans win one game, one game! & then you brag & gloat over it. You act as if you played Italy, England, Germany, Holland, Brazil, Portugal, France, & Argentina & beat all of them. Then you could actually have something to brag about. Reality is you beat Mexico. Mexico? Whos Mexico? Have they ever won the world cup? Of course not, the are on the same level as you which is to say on the side of the curb about to get washed down the storm drain. I said this once & I feel the need to repeat myself once more. America is not respected in the world of soccer & when push comes to shove & it's all on the line in a big game in a big event like the world cup they get blown out of the water & always will. To think & be stupid enough to say the US will win the world cup is like saying you still believe in Santa Claus. Grow up & get real. America is no way near being a contender in international soccer. Your third rate at best.

Hey, we tied Italy with a man down. And it's also not true that we always blow World Cups. 2002 quarterfinalists. That saying, that's still not a very strong track record, and I'll agree with you Bobby, USA blew it this year. I also doubt that the USA will win in 2010. Most probably, Brazil, Argentina, or someone who is used to climates like South Africa will win in 2010. But neither the US or Mexico is weak on the international level. Yes, they are weak ohe World Cup level, but they qualified for the World Cup, which puts them into a higher class than most. And by the way, whoever "USA USA USA" is, who cares if the US is first or last to qualify in CONCACAF? As long as they qualify, I'm content. I don't expect the World Cup, I just hope that are very, VERY slim chances of winning fall in our favor for once.

Again Adam you speak out of the corners of your mouth.Again! since you just cant seem to see the moronic reasoning you throw out there. The world cup ..IS THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL! So! that being said if the US is more times often than not weak at the world cup level, well.. that makes they weak at the international level as it's one in the same. Also like a number of people have posted here they qualify out of by far the weakest world cup qualifying regions in the world. The only team that is a minor challange is Mexico. Other than that it's easy street for the US. Imagine if they had to qualify against Italy, Germany, England, France, Portugal, Holland, Spain or Brazil & Argentina. If so the US would never ever ever qualify for the world cup. Now sit back & think long & hard before posting or at least preview your post before clicking post as most of the time you make no sense. Nothing personal but it's true.

Hi bobby Walls: well put, the US have one of the easiest,if not the easiest qualifying round(who besides Mexico, and that's not saying a lot),Bobby you are right,if they had to qualify against those countries you named..............I wouldn't bet on seeing the US in the WC.They have come a long way although, I think the rediculous FIFA ranking(the old way, before the 2006 WC)that ranked them so high actually hurt them and Mexico as they both landed on their you know what.

mexico still has more european players then usa . what now

Where did you get that statistic? I'd like to see some proof of that. There are 12 Americans currently in the Premiership alone. I can think of at least 4 or 5 in the Bundesliga. 3-4 in the Holland's Eredivisie. 1 in Serie A and another in France's League 1.

Then there are double digits of American players across the top flights of Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

There are also are many, many more in the 2nd and 3rd divisions of all of the countries mentioned above, including England's Championship and Germany's Bundesliga 2, which are pretty solid leagues themselves.

What you can say in favor of Mexico is that there are more Mexican players making a contribution at a top team of a top league. The likes of Marquez and Salcido with Barcelona, etc. No Americans can really lay claim to having an impact at a club of quite that caliber. Most Americans in the top European leagues are at clubs in the mid to lower end of the table.

But in terms of numbers, your statement is completely false. If you want to be harsh about it, neither the US nor Mexico are producing that many players that are making it in the top European leagues, certainly not by comparison to countries like Brazil and Argentina, but don't post complete BS as if it's fact.

I'm impressed! You've managed the amoslt impossible.
