Friedel to Change Youth Game
(Soccer365.com) - Blackburn netminder Brad Friedel is preparing to open his youth academy in August, a move he’s making to level the playing field for young American soccer players.
“I don't like how the youth is developed in the United States,” the American Abroad recently told the Press Enterprise. “I think it's farcical at times.”
“I think about 70-80 percent of the youth coaches are only in it to get paid, and that's across America - there are far too many politics involved."
"We tried to get involved to see if we could formulate a youth academy as they're run in the rest of the world, where it would be free of charge for the kids,” asserted Friedel of his Ohio-based soccer school. "These kids that stay with us year-round will be elite players."
