Kahn Attacks Teammates As Bayern Crisis Deepens

(Goal.com) - Bayern Munich skipper Oliver Kahn has hit out at teammates over the side's lacklustre displays of late.

The Bavarian giants have been in atrocious form in the new year, and failed to turn it around under new coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, crashing to a 3-0 defeat against Nuremberg.

They are now lowly fourth, a full 11 points off the top, and in real danger of missing out on a Champions League berth - awarded to the top three.

Skipper Oliver Kahn is clearly unimpressed, and despaired what he has been witnessing from between the posts.

"It is unbelievable how easy it has become to score against us," Kahn told Bild. "There are so many silly mistakes that you can only despair of as a goalkeeper.

"I am in top condition but [goalkeeping coach] Sepp Maier and I ask ourselves 'what it is we are training for'."

Hitzfeld has called for Kahn to be more vocal, in a bid to take things onwards and upwards, but the 37-year-old believes there is only so much one can do against an insecure team.

"Speaking out would not do anything in the current situation," he said. "The team is so insecure.

"We have now got to go all out for our minimum aim of third place, and then see if we have a bit more luck against Real [Madrid] in the Champions League."

I feel bad for Kahn as he's always been a fine keeper & a good example of how a player can extend his footballing career if he stays healthy. He's always played well at the national team & club levels & I think he knows he's nearing the end of his top flight playing days & wants to go out on top. I can't say I blame him. I hope they can turn it around.

I usually agree with you Ras, but this time I have to make an arguement. Kahn recently has been saying things that tend to look like he's pointing the finger at someone else. For example, after wc 06 he stated that Germany would have won the wc if he was in goal. To say that was to say Lehmann was not good enough and if you ask me Lehmann played tremendous. Now he's saying that it's too easy for other teams to score and as a goalkeeper he can only despair. Soccer is a team sport--you take the good and the bad with your team. Having said this, I do respect Oliver for the work he puts in, to extend his career as a top flighter. He was truly one of the best to ever tend goal. He just has to learn to tone down his comments a notch because it really doesn't look good on him and won't help him in this situation. Go to the powers that be and ask them to either aquire better talent or trade him to a contender. I can't see management not trading him to a contender after all Oliver has done for German domestic and international football. He deserves a swan song to a brilliant career.

Actually Giova I agree with your comment believe it or not. I think he's frustrated as he knows he's at the end of his day's playing wise. He should tone down his comments as it makes him look jaded. He was a great keeper, still is a good keeper. I just hope when he goes out it will be on a good note!

Giova is right, Kahn's comments are self-serving meant to bring attention to him not Bayern, the young players will be hurt not helped.

I have to agree with u guys, kahn acted little a little spoiled child, when he made those statements after WC 2006, I seriously doubt he would have saved Grosso's shot,I don't think anyone would.when u talk out of your S,and seem frustrated as he, ....it's time to change path.

Yup u hit it rite on giova
