Márquez Remaining Confident

(Goal.com) - Rafa Márquez believes that FC Barcelona should be confident ahead of their two crucial cup in the next fortnight as they look to recover in both the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey.

Next week, the Blaugrana travel to La Romareda for the second leg of the Copa Del Rey quarter final against Real Zaragoza and then seven days later they take on Liverpool at Anfield.

In both ties Frank Rijkaard's team are losing at the halfway stage, but Márquez does not expect Barça to suffer from nerves and believes that the club's fans should remain positive.

"This is a team that does not hide," he said.

"People must have confidence in us like last season when we played Chelsea and they were expecting us not to win and go out.

"The squad has always been confident, so nothing is impossible, even if it is difficult now.

"We are lacking the depth that we had before and our opponents are marking Ronaldinho more tightly and looking to provoke fouls.

"We have tried to come up with moves and playing in different positions.

"There are not many things that need improving and people should not forget how well we did last season.

"The players have to believe that we can return the level we were at, because we have the quality. The mental side needs work though."

Márquez also believes that FC Barcelona are missing a slice of luck stating: "It is something that every team needs, but against Liverpool they had three or four dangerous moves and scored twice."

With 90 minutes to go in both cup competitions, the Mexican international is not ready to consider defeat in either tie.

"Now is not the time to regret anything, we just have to bounce back in both the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey," he concluded.

he better make up for that header he gave to liverpool instead of putting the ball out.
liverpool was lucky for those scrappy goals they got no .shame on them to play the game so defencive from start to finish.
i feel barcelona can still do the job in england.

Of course Barcelona can do the job on any given day against any team. Just don't count out Liverpool as they have a good squad as well. A scrappy goal is still a goal by whatever means & at the end of the match it's the squad that has put in the most goals, scrappy or not that rules the day. It should be interesting though in the return leg of this encounter between these two teams.

yes rasputin please remember that arsenal put six past liverpool in one game
arsenal won 3 to 1 in another game five days later. you see when liverpool team plays open soccer or try to play that,s what happen .
now remember that i told you this .
barcelona wiil win in england by the goals they need.

Maybe they will & maybe they wont. I know one thing. A tie wont get them through. I think they have to put up three goals if not more to get through. On paper player for player they have a much better team but who knows. It will be tough for them as it's going to be in England. I'm not going to call this match as it all boils down to who plays the best game & makes the least amount of mistakes

Well if you think about it all the teams left have an equal chance to win or lose now. Yes some teams have a few more big name players compared to others but it really doesn't matter. Liverpool has a slight edge on the giants from Spain as they already have the one win. Chelsea & Porto, that one is wide open. PSV have an edge on Arsenal now. Manchester United have an edge on Lille & they we have Celtic! Who would have ever thought they could come out with a tie aganst the team they played? I agree with Tristan's comments just because a team is loaded with world class fire power it does not mean victory! The teams that make the least amount of mistakes from this point on will go through. It's as simple as that.

What I've noticed about European Football now is in the various professional leagues the only thing ethnic about the respective leagues in England, France, Germany, Spain, & Italy is the fans that turn out to go see games. The teams now are for the most part made up of imported players. This is not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned but it explains why the more powerful teams are hot & cold a lot of the time. There's a transfer window now in January & June so what's happening is players & even managers are coming & going at a much faster rate so squads do not have the time to gel as a unit as in days of old. Lokk at Real Madrid & the great side they had through the 50's & 60's or even Manchester United in the 60's & Ajax all through the 70's. These teams & their players were together for years & that's why they stayed on top for so long. I don't think we will ever see an era like that again as the sport is all about making loads of money with a quick fix mentality of throwing together the best squad they can buy & go for broke. We live in a different world now where most high profile players are spoiled & only in it for the big money & most managers are expected to do their job with one hand tied behind their back. Case in point Capello at Real Madrid. They brought him in to get results & to bring order to the squad but at the same time prevent him from doing what he needs to do. He's had players (not to mention names) show up to train drunk! Yes drunk! From the night before & when he would attempt to come down on these screw ups they would run to the club's owners to complain & in turn they would tell Capello to back off! This is crazy! It's also one of the major problems with the sport now where you have high dollar players doing whatever they want.

Barca seems like the next team to contract the galactico syndrome. It took a lot of time to get rid of this sickness at Madrid and it still isn't quite finished yet. Eto'o is just the beginning. Word is Ronaldinho is thinking seriously about jumping ship. If Eto'o and Ronaldinho leave you can be sure Deco will follow suit. This team is walking on thin ice right now. Lots of animosity and tension. They should have destroyed Liverpool, but like I said in another post before the game, Barca was ripe for the picking. When everyone on this team is on the same page--they are unbeatable. Right now, they are very beatable. Look for Liverpool to take them out. Nevermind what Marquez has to say. It means nothing.

now all you guys talking about barce listen .
pull your dvr or dvd look at the game . we should have won 4 to 2 ,
liverpool did not build up any play for there goals we gave them , valdes slip with the ball and marquez gave them the next . look at our chances in the run of play.
liverpool think they can defend for 90min. plus in the second leg big mistake.we will win that game 2nill. eto is gone ,we are good

dr.nyc.....Milan should have beaten Liverpool in the Champions League final 2 years ago when they were leading 3-0 at the half. Guess what? They didn't and we all know who held the trophy and got credit as Champions of Europe that year. Liverpool. Should have won means didly. So get the dvd of that game and watch the top left hand corner of the screen where the score is shown, because that's the only thing that really matters.

Marquez sounds confident after every loss. That guy needs to shut it, especially after he allows goals, whether it be for mexico or barça. He's the most confident loser ever.

Dr. nyc... like giova said: shoulda coulda woulda. It's about how many goals are on the scoreboard at the end. LIVERPOOL!

That's the perfect discription of Marquez Yoyo!

I almost wish that the entire squads of Chelsea, Madrid, & Barca would go down in a fireball airline crash! I'm so tired of hearing about these teams & all their drama. Yes it would be great if this actually would happen.

my goodness kevin you need help ,one sick son of a gun

Are u kidding kevin?! Those are some of the best teams in the world! They are amazing to watch!

Like Rasputin said the game would be a lot better if only there wasn't so mucn moving around by the top players who are only looking for big bucks. A big part of playing the game is knowing your team mates and getting along with them and being able to work together, when you don't have that chemistry among players and you constantly have new players, you basically don't have a team, you only have a couple of good players who can't do anything alone no matter how good they are.

Thank You Anonymous! I think you, Giova, Heath, & myself are all on the same page with this topic. It just seems in days of old the really great teams were teams that were together for many years. We are living in a different era now.
