Robinho: Tottenham Not Big Enough For Me
(Goal.com) - Real Madrid winger Robinho has dismissed claims he would consider joining Tottenham.
The Real Madrid forward's agent revealed yesterday that exit was a possibility following the treatment dished out to him by Capello.
Wagner Ribeiro had said: "He [Robinho] told me what he had said to the Spanish press about being unhappy and that he’ll only be happy playing.
"We’ll have to really examine his position in the middle of the year and I’m taking a diversion from my trip to Turkey [where he represents seven Brazilians] to visit Madrid."
Tottenham have since been linked with him, but Robinho was dismissive.
"Reports that I'd move to Tottenham are wide of the mark," he reportedly told Marca.
"If I had to leave Real, I'd choose to join another a big club.
"I don't regard Tottenham Hotspur as a big club."
Of course, he has been linked with Arsenal in the past, and Arsene Wenger is known to be a big admirer. Could that have played a part?
The comment should keep the Premiership debate on big and small clubs alive, at least for a while...

Thats alright Robinho. Tottenham does not consider you a big enough player! Who does this uneducated clown think he is? This guy could not hang playing in England where the pace of the game is so fast there is no time for futsal tricks unless you like having your legs broken. What a joke this guy is.

Makes me laugh. Guys like Robinho that grew up dirt poor. Little or no education. Being paid millions to in simple terms .. kick a ball around & then cop an attitude like this. Who does this guy think he is? Man! right now if your a professional & you have the chance to play in England you go for it! I do think though that with his style he would have a hard time playing in England though as theres no room for fancy moves in that league. Players that like to hold on to the ball there end up injured most of the time.

Dear Sam adams and Banister you are quite right. By the moment I started reading Robinho's comment I roughed at him then i said to myself that, this little poor boy do not understand even in which world he is living in! It is the same thing like Christiano Ronaldo who want to move to Barca and Real Madrid by thinking are better clubs than Manchester United! The poor Ronaldo is stil living with history that Real is stil possessing Zizzu,de Lima and Figo-the football artists in the world! I gues Robinho still believing the same!come-on!
Robinho is fit to play in the team like Conventry, Leeds United and others in the english first league.

It may have been taken out of context...Maybe if Spurs were an ever present in the Champions League or pushing for the prem trophy but they are consistantly 5-6 place..
I am by no means slagging off Spurs or their supporters. I am a United supporter, but when Spurs are on their game I like the footbal they play.

just to make a point..
you say that robinho would not last in the epl because of his desire to do fancy flicks and tricks.well, have a look at c.ronaldo,(in my opinion) he's worse than robinho when it comes to holding on to the ball too long, but he is still one of the most successful players in the league.

Robinho can express the desire to play where he wants;the reality is he has only 3 serious options. Madrid sees him as a bust, and so do most other clubs.

I know Robinho is confident to be a star because he plays at Real Madread but he has nothing new to offer than some players at spurs. Dear friends, do not be suprised to hear Reyes saying he can not play at Gunners with the same reasons as Robinho!
Whoever joins Real Madread always think cannot play at any club than Real!May be Real Madread at one time happened to sign in star players!
Let us see Robinho and his RealMadread during the showdown of Champion League next week.
I am not sure but I gues Real including Robinho will be the first to knock out!!!

My stomach started to hurt after I read this article. Oh, my stomach.

sam adams u dont know anything about the game. The epl is a league that doesnt involve any skill. Its all stupid long balls. U wanna see a real league look at the serie a and la liga. U guys obviously aren't professional futbol players so stop judging players that have gone farther in the game than u. let Robinho think wat he wants to think.

Actually it's YOU! who knows nothing about the game. The EPL is the mecca for professional players now. Flair players like Robinho usually do not fair well there as not only is the EPL played at a much faster pace which means the players have to think much quicker it's also a very tough league to play in for players that like to hold on to the ball, like players from Latin American countries. Players that hold on to the ball too often in the EPL find themselves on their backs & having to pick themselves off the turf time after time after time not to forget they are injured quite alot as well. As for Robinho's comment well, not so bright people say not so bright things. He should thank his lucky stars if a club from the EPL wants to offer him a contract as his days are numbered where he's at now & rightly so!

You know usually I try to stay out of the arguements & bickering that sometimes goes on here but I feel compelled to respond to the person that signs here as (someone) & blah blah. I played as a professional in England with Wolves & I played as a professional in Spain with Celta Viga so I think I know a little bit more than you when it comes to being a professional footballer. First of all your talking about totally different styles of play. In Spain I had more time on the ball, more space to do what I needed to do. The extra time gave a player more time to play creative football. In England, No Dice! Very tight man to man marking at a mad pace. Not very much time on the ball at all but just as skilled as the football being played in Spain. It's one thing to have the time to pass the ball back & fourth to set up plays that lead to goals. However it's even more difficult to put the ball into the back of the net when everything around you is moving at the speed of light. As for the comment Robinho has made it's not too smart on his part as it shows a total lack of respect & players like Robinho are part of whats wrong with the game today as they think they are bigger & more important than te clubs they play for, even the game in general. The living truth is players come & go but the game goes on. In my day professionals never questioned the manager or went to the press to get our way. We had more heart, more drive, more passion for the game & we played for a mere fraction of what players make now.

Rasputin your right. Things have changed in the sport & the changes have not all been good. Robinho is too stupid to see he has very few options & he's not in the driver's seat. Where he's been playing is somewhat conductive to his style of play & still he's had a difficult run there finding his form & thats why he on the out! I get a little sick & tired reading about these spoiled brats with little or no education to speak of making demands about what they will, & will not do. Beckham is really the one that started all this rebel rebel nonesense & now all these other players are floowing suit. If I were a manager & one of my players went to cry to the press then that would be the last thing that player did in my club. You cant have some simple minded knuckle head like Robinho calling the shots & trying to lay hostage to the sport. FIFA really needs to crack down on people like Robinho & the loser Beckham. True! Players should have rights as theres nothing wrong with that but the clubs & managers they play for should have rights as well. You cant have players telling the clubs & managers how to run the clubs & who's going to play & not play.

Ras....I can't find Baltica #3. I looked everywhere for it. I'm on a mission now, I have to find it. I'll probably go ta a russian restaurant, have a meal and see if they have it. Oh yeah, Robinho also makes me sick along with Eto'o. Christiano Ronaldo and Beckham. Unaaceptable!
Posted by: giova * * * * | February 17, 2007 08:47 PM
Hi Giova ...
Out here in Los Angeles they have a Russian area in the west end of town so I guess it's a little easier for me to get my hands on stuff like that. I never knew how many Russian people live here until I met my wife & man I have to tell you they are everywhere! That's a good idea you have as a place that serves Russian foor should have Baltica as it's very popular with Russians. Have a good weekend!

I have noticed here at the fourm that not all views are taken with open arms. I'm not sure but my guess is soccer.com is based in America. If so nothing wrong with that. What I have also noticed is not all post here are considered equal. If you are indeed based in America you really need to practice what you Preach Americans' preach which is freedom of speach. People are different & being different have different views. You seem to delete post of people who's views might be seem as not with what might be considered the status quo. Every person has a right to his or her views on this sport we all love so there is no reason for you to delete any post here regardless if you agree with it or not. If you continue to delete peoples' post here I will be compelled to take you on legal grounds. The world does not revolve around you just as it does not revlove around me. Try being open minded & if not so you will learn the hard way when I defeat you in a court of law. I have rights just as anybody in America has rights & I will run you through the ringer on a legal note if needed. You have no rights to delete peoples views & I will show you so if needed. As Rooney says so often ... Bring it on! I already know what the end result will be.

You guys enjoy the little time that has remained to call it the day. Cheer, viva football and interpersonal players.

I'm ok Giova, Thanks!
They seem to have their favorites here on the boards. I don't agree with all the post left here just like some people might not agree with my post but I have yet to read by anybody that post here something vulgar. Of course there are some people that post here that have very strong views ut so what! This sport brings out passions in us all & when I read a post here I might not care for I just ignore it & wont respond. Overall though I think the vast majority of everyones' post here are very good!

Robinho can play where ever he wish. he is the best. English league is the worste league. They are sorry. All those racest and haters stop the f out. Those are the English fun.
Posted by: Bereket Kidane | February 19, 2007 03:26 AM
You have your opinion Bereket, but the facts say that Robinho has not lived up to his potential. He was once billed to be the next Pele and now doesn't even start for Real Madrid. I think Tottenham is to big for him and I'm not even an English fan. So no racial crap here my friend, just the facts. The spoiled brat knows he is not what everyone expects and is trying to wear bigger shoes than his feet fit into. Good day, sir.
Posted by: giova * * * * | February 19, 2007 10:43 AM
Hey giova, ever notice how every young Brazil striker/goalscorer is supposed to be the next Pele and every young Argentine is the next Maradona? Hype is hype, but those kind of expectations are always too lofty.
Robinho is still just a kid, only 23 years ago, so it's too early pass judgment on his career. He might be well served though to go somewhere where he can get experience as THE main threat on a team in a top league. He's always going to have to share chances at Real, so a move to a club like Tottenham, or a smaller club in Spain, might be just what he needs. But I doubt he'll ever see that, b/c he's been hyped since he was 9 years old, and seems to believe he is entitled to be a star, the next legend, at the biggest clubs without first having to earn it.
Posted by: yoyo | February 19, 2007 12:05 PM
23 years old, I meant.
Posted by: yoyo | February 19, 2007 12:10 PM
Yes he's only 23 but 23 to 30 will go by in a blink of an eye & 30 to 35 even faster. He needs to act like a grown adult & be more realistic. A footballers career is rather fleeting, here today, gone tomorrow. I think what's happening in football is these young players are making totally huge amounts of money, they are always in the media & live like rock stars & are pumped up to be larger than life. These young kids more times often than not start to believe their own hype & this is what blows them off the course of reality. Beckham has been able to pull it off as he's done a good job of making himself out to be something larger than life but that's Beckham. Not ever player is going to be able to do the same thing. Football is now a giant global corperate money making machine & most footballers now have little or no honor as it's all about making the quick buck & then get yourself out.

Hey everybody,
Old Becky Beckham was red carded in Spain yesterday. Seems he was fouled by a defender from the other team they played against & they he lashed out with a sissy strike against that player. Geez! He's more dumb than he looks & he hits like a little girl, to be expected, He's English! I had a good laugh when I saw it! Looks like he will be back on the bench for Capello & I hope this time Capello keeps him there!

I totally agree with you Ras and yoyo

spurs is too small for robinho ,this kid lots of skills .he is right
Posted by: soccer dr nyc | February 20, 2007 11:27 AM
Robinho is a talented player but ,what he said to spurs wasn't approapriate because every player that plays for spurs are proffesionals so they are all good spurs is a big clup and robinho is a big player.
