Ronaldinho In Swipe At Eto’o
(Goal.com) - Barcelona’s Ronaldinho has criticised team-mate Samuel Eto’o after his refusal to come on as a substitute during the 2-0 win over Racing Santander on Sunday.
The Brazilian grabbed the headlines with both goals but there was controversy surrounding his team-mate.
Barca boss Frank Rijkaard wanted to give substitute Eto’o five minutes at the end of the game as he continues his comeback from a knee injury, but the Cameroon star did not want to play.
"Everything depends on the player and the particular situation, but it always is important to think about what's best for the team," said Ronaldinho.
Rijkaard himself revealed: "Eto'o was warming up (in the 69th minute), but later when it came to putting him on, he did not want to go. It is a pity, but I still have not been able to speak with him and I do not know the cause of his decision."
It is being reported that Eto'o had been told he would play for half-an-hour and by the end of the match he did not want to come on at all.
Eto'o will now meet with Rijkaard in training to resolve the situation.
President Joan Laporta says he is confident about Rijkaard's handing of the situation.
“Samuel has suffered during four months and to be happy he needs to play and to score," he said. "It is necessary to be at his side. And Rijkaard, a teacher in these things, will find the right solution for him."

First class player, second class person--I'm not surprised. Ronaldinho was right to call him out. How can you have respect for a teamate, when he doesn't have respect for his team. Take him off the best club team in the world and ship him off to Auxerre or Levante or some other bottom of the ladder club. Chop him down to the same size as his character. This kind of crap is happening way too much. What the hell is the world coming to. Millions of people would love to be in his position, and he just pi$$es on Barca. No excuses he should be relegated to the dung of European clubs. PERIOD! Et'o if you happen to browse on this site--I want you to know that Giovanni has lost all respect for you as a player and even more as a person. Harsh? I think not!

Ronaldinho criticism may or may not be just, the situation has not been fully explained. I hope that it was a misunderstanding; if not,it's sad commentary on his character and sportsmanship.

At times some of the best players in the world sit on the bench, and when called they should be eager to play, this is not professionalism, that is why there's a coach.

Eto'o is definitely in the wrong. When an injury occurs, a coach has to act wisely with his substitutes, as he only gets three. Rijkaard probably expected at least one more sub available if and when he put in Eto'o, but he decided not to take the risk. Eto'o is a fantastic player, but no player is above the team. Put quite simply, nobody is that important. Eto'o needs to get his act together quickly if he wants first team action any time soon.

From the looks of your commentary none of you have ever come back from injury. It's just silly to go on for 5 minutes at the end of a close game coming off such a serious injury. Tensions are high on both sides of the pitch and there is nothing to be gained when you don't have the time to get into rythm. Regardless of what you think of Eto'o as a man, he is a vital part of the Barca lineup and the team benefits from him playing. It's easy to bash Eto'o for not wanting to go in for the last few minutes, but it was best for his health and therefore best for the team - simple as that.

For my pal apollo: believe me I came back from two bad injuries and busted my tail to get back to form so I wouldn't my scholarship and place with a semi-pro team, still the coach is the coach and you are at the service of your team, the team should come first always.

Ronaldinho had the rite to criticize Eto'o. Star player or not he should play. If he doesnt want to play futbol they should get him out of Barca. Thts wat Eto'o wants anyway.
