Cannavaro Reveals Napoli Contact
(Goal.com) - Fabio Cannavaro has revealed that he has informed Napoli of his desire to return to the club and could be set to leave Real Madrid this summer.
The Italian central defender met with the Serie B's chief, Pierpaolo Marino, in Rimini recently and made it clear he is keen to end his career with the Azzurri.
After a troubled campaign at the Bernabéu, the 33-year-old defender could be set to leave Madrid with coach Fabio Capello at the end of the season and has already started laying the groundwork for his next destination.
"I have talked to Marino, Napoli's chief operating officer, and he knows how I feel now," Cannavaro stated.
It is not the first time that the former Parma and Juventus star has claimed that he would like to represent his hometown club again, but this was the clearest statement of intent yet.
Marino has reportedly not met with the Napoli board to brief them in full on his coversation with the World Cup winner.
Cannavaro rose through the ranks at Napoli and played for the club for three seasons until in 1995 he joined Parma during the club's golden period.
After seven seasons with the Gialloblu, Inter snapped him up and he was on the move once again in 2004 when Juventus came calling.
When La Vecchia Signora were relegated at the end of last season, Cannavaro was tempted by trying his hand in la Primera and joined Capello in Madrid

I love Cannavaro! In my opinion he's one of the top three backs in the world. He doesn't have one single weakness! Not one! I'm not surprised he want's to leave Madrid. It's sad what has happened with Madrid. So many world class players' being wasted. Most of all the biggest problem they have is that weak minded Capello. He is in way over his head & Madrid made a big mistake bringing him on board. Though returning to Italy is a far better choice for Cannavaro than staying in Madrid he could also more than hold his own in the Premiership as well with any big team there. He's Italian but yet has an international style to the way he play's. He's tough as nails but at the same time play's fair & he's a born leader. He's already proven himself in Italy. He's had a not so happy experience in Spain which is not his fault. I know it's a slim chance but I think he would do fantastic in the Premiership. He's a great player that can hold his own anywhere! I just hope where ever he goes he end's up happy & get's respect as he deserves it. Fight on Cannavaro! Fight on!

I don't bash Italians' in general. I call them as I see them! I love Cannavaro, just like I love Toni, because they are great players'! I dislike & have no respect for Capello, not! because he's Italain, but because he's a weak manager that has no self respect & he won't stick to his guns! What I've posted about the sorry state of the Italian league is not my way of bashing Italians' It's fact based on what I've stated earlier & that is greed driven Italian club owners ruined their own league. Quit being so self rightious as your the one who likes to bash here, not me. I just point out the truth to you & you don't like it! Your the one who's bias, not me. Cannavaro is a great player period! It wouldn't matter what his nationality is as he would still be a great player. Just like it wouldn't matter what Capello's nationality is, he's still a weak manager.

I would also like to say I'm proud of my country & that they were able to get a draw against England as even though England is in a rut they are still a good team so it's important for my country to get a good result against them.

Good post Scotty! Well put! When about a year ago I first read Cannavaro was going to Madrid I thought it would lead to good things as a number of other quality players' were going there as well. Capello just failed so bad there & it's hard to say what went wrong. I think he's gone at the season's end. Madrid have a lot of work to do to get back to where they once were. I also think Cannavaro would fare well in the Premiership. He's 33 but he's fit & strong & play's like a player 10 years younger so he would do well there.
