Ferguson Fury With Madrid And Barça
(Goal.com) - Sir Alex Ferguson has hit out at Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for their attempts to lure Cristiano Ronaldo and stated that he is confident the player will sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils' manager is infuriated that the Spanish league giants have publicly stated their interest in the Portuguese star and believes that they have a history of unsettling players to boost presidential candidates' election chances.
With talks underway between United and Ronaldo over a new deal that could keep him at the Premiership club until 2012, Ferugson accused Madrid and Barça of stirring up trouble.
"Let's be perfectly clear, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been doing this ever since I have been at this club," the Scotsman said.
"When the (presidntial) elections are on, the best player in the world is always used, there is no doubt about that.
"It happens every year and you have to accept it. But we are negotiating strongly with Cristiano's agent and I am hopeful he will sign."
"Cristiano is not silly enough not to realise he is being used as a pawn.
"They may be right, they may want him, but there is no doubt there is another motive to it and that is the elections."
Barça are due to hold presidential elections next year, while Madrid have been linked with Ronaldo since last summer when Ramón Calderón took over at the Bernabéu.
Ferguson then reflected on the course that negotiations between United and the player could take and hinted that the club would not be held to ransom.
"There could be a limit," he explained.
"They might ask for X and we might only want to pay Y. But that is negotiation. Eventually, if both parties want it, they will come to an agreement."

When will these two teams realize their issues are not in the attack. It's the back lines of each team that need changes.

Christiano has been wanting to leave Man U for a while now despite what he has said recently. He ran and hid after the world cup and didn't want to turn around but Man U forced him to come back. Of course he's going to say he likes it there now. The reality is, Christianos heart is in Spain, Real Madrid to be precise. They do need some firepower and speed since getting rid of Ronaldo, and soon Cassano and Robinho will be on their way out too. I would have mentioned Beckham but he is a non factor. Having said this, because of all these big name departures from Real...they will have plenty of money to spend on a player like Christiano , so he can play some quality football close to home...his native Portugal. It just makes too much sense for everyone involved except Man U unfortunately. Don't be surprised to hear that Christiano will sign and play for the Spanish giants. A galactico in waiting.

I think Ronaldo should just stay at Man. U. he is doing great and he is a great strike partner with Rooney and Park. There like a triple threat Ronaldo's speed, Rooney's powerful shots, and Park's positioning.

HE DIVES TOO MUCH! AND THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE GAME, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE LITTLE KIDS WATCHING THE GAME.THEY MIGHT THINK THAT IT IS OK.

hey giova what going on ,you noticed that i have stop posting comments . they guys just hate when people who know about soccer talk. you are so right about ronaldo .
after the world cup he was forced to stay at man utd. anyway the player that i want at barce next and very soon is ajax number 9 nine. HUNTALAAR HE IS A YOUNG GOAL MACHINE.

I think you guys are right. CRonaldo was reluctant to come back this year, especially after his little tiff with Rooney in the world cup. But he's having a tremendous year. ManUnited would not be top of the table without him. I'm not surprised Real and Barca are after him and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went to Spain.
As for Sir Alex...I don't see what he's complaining about, his club does the same thing as Real and Barca all the time too. One example would be how they've been trying to take Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich since last summer. So complaining about the situation with C Ronaldo is a bit hypocritical.

I think when all is said & done he's going to stay at United. United doesn't have all the n fighting & problems Barca & Madrid do because United's manager acts' like a manager & has control of the club. giova/drago. You never answered the question. What professional teams have you played for? We all await your answer.

Manchester United is the only top level club in the world right now besides maybe Liverpool where the manager has control of the situation with his players' Look at clubs like Barca & Madrid. The managers' there are lost causes. They have no control, no real say & the players' go behind their backs to get what they want. Sure United has big name players' & with that comes big egos but you never see them giving the manager there attitude because if they do, their gone! Simple as that. Just think of all the big name, high profile players' that have been given their walking orders through the years. Win or lose the Champions' League or Premiership this year United still has one of the best club systems in the world & it deems respect!

Ya Giova/Drago what pro. teams have you played for.

there is a very small chance that ronaldo will go to spain over the summer. With his friendship with Rooney flying higher than ever (they are stretching partners when they warm up just to give an example), there is only a small chance of him leaving at seasons end. If you look at it, madrid haven't been leaders in La Liga for 2 years and barca are having trouble keeping the top spot from sevilla (who are absolutly on fire by the way). Both of them are out of Europe whereas united have a chance to go straight to the final. However if he did leave, the team to get him would be Barca because it would end up being a trade of either deco (who has said he wants to leave for united or chelsea) or Eto'o (who has had problems with Rijkaard).

Interesting post you'v made but you might what to check your info here with this giova/drago character as according to this prison allstar Ronaldo is ready to pack his bags in a flash. You would think this giova/drago was on a personal friendship level with ol Ronaldo! I'm green with Envy! Maybe if I had nothing to do all day but stay on the computer & watch matche's on the telly I would be a know it all expert like giova/ drago as well. Oh well, we all can't be perfect & so self rightous now can we!

If Ronaldo goes to Madrid it will be a waste of his talent as he will be thrown into that ..Your on! Your off rotation like all the other players' there. Plus they have the madman Capello at the helm there & he plain does not know what he's doing. He has no clue! It was one thing for Capello to do well as a manager in his native country but abroad he's failed in a big way. He's just not the type of manager that has the qualities to handle a big ship like Madrid & he's one of the main reasons' they have so many problems. Ronaldo is young & it's good he's at United as there is order there & control by the manager who act's like a grown man & demands respect. Going to Madrid or Barca at this point in time would hurt Ronaldo's career as there is no order at either club. Madrid being the worse of the two as they have a weak manager that doesn't have the qualities to handle so many big names & control such a big club.

coming from a man utd fan..let ronaldo go! hes not that much of a loss to the team. as long as man utd get all these injuries taken care of, we'll be fine without him. Dont get me wrong, he's a good player and i'd like him to stay, im just sayin it wouldnt effect utd much.
Posted by: john | March 21, 2007 05:20 PM
also, i dont see why ronaldo would want to go to a club like real madrid. i dont think that another huge star is what they need. madrid needs some players that their ego doesn't take over their skill.
Posted by: john | March 21, 2007 05:22 PM
Wow John, how can you say that? He's been United's best player by far. I'm a United fan too. Unless we get a huge deal for him, I don't want to see him go. By the way, he is working on a new deal with United. So, this discussion could be mute.
Posted by: Ghost Rider | March 21, 2007 06:35 PM
I think your right Rider. He seems happy at United & they have already said if he signs to stay on he will be the highest paid player at the club. Going to Barca, or worse Madrid he would end up being lost in the mix. The first time he would show any sign of losing form at either club or get injured they would nail him to the bench there. Too many big egos at those clubs now & the managers' there have no control. At least at United the manager has all the players' respect.
Posted by: Spivey Point | March 21, 2007 07:02 PM
ghost rider.
you must have misunderstood. i said i would like to see him stay, but he wouldnt be a huge loss as players are coming out of their injuries. and what do u mean "if we get a huge deal for him"??. we wouldnt get anything BUT a huge deal for him.
Posted by: john | March 21, 2007 09:02 PM
i think he will stay and i would be delighted to see it
Posted by: john | March 21, 2007 09:05 PM
John, I get what you're saying, but the guys that are injured haven't been injured all year. Even when everyone was fit and playing, Ronaldo's been their best player by far. Also, he's come out himself and said he's staying at United until he's regarded as one of the best to ever play for the club. Doesn't sound like he's going anywhere.
Posted by: Ghost Rider | March 22, 2007 12:23 PM
I really think one of the main reason's Ronaldo has done so well in England beyond the fact that he is gifted with so many world class skills is by nature he is a very fast player which suits the English game. If you look at let's say Ronnie from Barca he's a player that also has world class skills but I think he would find it difficult to play in England due to the blinding pace there. Ronnie's game as I've said earlier requires time on the ball to allow him to do what he does best in England your not afforded much time on the ball. This is the striking difference between these two players' & why I feel Ronaldo is the overall better of the two.
Posted by: Spivey Point | March 22, 2007 05:24 PM
I guess you've never seen Ronaldinho play a quick based game. I've seen him make fast decisions with the ball. Don't you remember how he single-handedly knocked Chelsea out of Europe 2 years ago with a deft chip shot near the end of the game? He must have had the ball at his feet 5 seconds before he kicked it in. He anticipates and proved he can play against the English and succeed. This year was a little different because of all the internal crap Barca is going through. And for those of you who say he isn't tough enough to play in England--your'e talking about a kid who grew up playing soccer barefoot on aggregate. BRazilizn shantytown ball is the toughest game to play. England is too fast? He isn't tough enough? Please Ronnie as you call him would do circles around the Premierships best save John Terry,

I remember seeing him play against France in the world cup & he was like a lost puppy! I also saw him drift around & be marked out of the game by a kick & run team from England called Liverpool so it looks like you again put your foot in your mouth. Anyway he (Ronnie) would have a difficult time trying to adjust to the English game as the English game wouldn't adjust to him that's for sure!
Posted by: Spivey Point | March 23, 2007 01:40 AM
this is interesting. Although I think Ronaldinho can play in England, I think its better that he stays in La Liga. I don't think that he would be given nearly as much time on the ball as he gets playing in Spain. It is because he has so much time on the ball that he is able to create all the "magical" things he does. I also agree with what Spivey said about Ronaldo being well adapted to english football/soccer because of his quickness. It is a necessity that to play in england, you have to have pace or an extremely good first touch.
Posted by: bredred | March 23, 2007 02:42 AM
Well put bredred, You see the same things I do in Ronaldo & Ronaldinho. Anybody can do tricks galore all day if he has the time on the ball & space to do it. Trying it in a game played at blinding pace is quite another thing. Your right as in the best professional league in the world ..England's Premiership you have to have pace & also like you said very good first time touch which means a player needs to be able to think much quicker in order to beat the gun so to stay.
Posted by: James Eltaha | March 23, 2007 03:12 AM
I don't remember Ronaldinho doing a whole lot against Arsenal's backline in Champions League Final last year. Chelsea pretty much shut him down in 2 games this year. He did nothing vs Makelele (a Premier League Midfielder) in Brazil's match vs France. He didn't do a whole lot in the 2 games vs Liverpool either. So, to say he would run circles around the Premiership's best, the evidence doesn't back that statement.
Posted by: Ghost Rider | March 23, 2007 12:25 PM
Rider your right. Lot's of people here just don't like England or the Premiership based upon the fact they don't like English people in general. I was born & am from Brazil though my ethnic roots are European but I have loads of respect for English soccer & the Premiership as it's the most difficult league to play in at the moment. Ronaldinho is a fine player no arguement there but out of his element in a faster paced game he's a lost ship upon the ocean. For anybody to say he would have an easy ride if he played in the Premiership is to show that the person making such comment's know's very little about the game & how diferent styles of play can adapt, or not adapt against one another.
