Fire Pondering Blanco Move?

(Soccer365.com) - The Chicago Fire are reportedly considering an offer to Mexico veteran attacker Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who plays for Club América.

It is not the first time the wily playmaker has been linked to the Windy City, which has many citizens of some Mexican origin.

The 34-year old - often public enemy #1 when the U.S. National Team play Mexico - will not, however, be receiving a bid for his services from MLS champs Houston.

"While we have the utmost respect for Cuauhtémoc Blanco, the Dynamo have no interest in signing him," club executive Oliver Luck told the Houston Chronicle.

Wouldn't it be nice to see them looking at an good young Mexican player for a change? As good as Blanco has been at times in his career and as popular as he might be with Mexican-American MLS fans, he's 34 years old.

Mexican-American fans are such a great part of the MLS fan base as it is and could provide so many more fans, they deserve to have some quality Mexican players embraced by the league to come out and support. Call me crazy, but I'd like to see that fan base get some reasonably well known 22 - 27 year old players signed to impact positions in MLS, so they have someone to support for years to come. There are several that would be affordable, quality players.

Don't get me wrong, a short term contract for Blanco isn't a terrible idea. He still has something to offer at the MLS level and would give Mexican-American fans someone they know and love to watch and support. I woud just like to see those fans rewarded for their support of the league with a commitment to some good young Mexican players. Begin to establish MLS as a reasonable destination for up and coming Mexican players. It would be great for the fans and good for the league, from both a quality of play and a marketing perspective.

Why not show some interest in an Omar Bravo or Andres Guardado...Even Francisco Fonseca who is a bit older, but still several years younger than Blanco. Granted, a lot of the quality Mexican players such as these would resist moves to MLS, because there is quite a bit of animosity and lack of respect between the nations from a football perspective, but why not show some interest in signing some of these guys that could provide the league with added quality and have several years still to offer?

Why not add another over the hill, overrated, out of shape player to an already disappointing league. Go for it.

Oh boy! it's starting to look like the old NASL all over again...........

I agree with Heath Young!

Well said Heath agree totally

well blanco is the best mexican soccer player there is right know. just because those other player may be younger doesnt mean ther even as close to being as good as blaco.no young player right know has doen wat blanco has done at there age. he would be a good adition to the MLS.

it will be good for him to go to the mls and if they want a young player they are not gonna get it because nobody would want to go not wel known soccer league

Blanco should move to the M.L.S.
