Foudy: We Had To Do It Right
(Soccer365.com) - Former U.S. star Julie Foudy is confident that the new women’s professional league will be built on a sturdier foundation.
The WUSA, in which Foudy starred, spent lavishly at its inception and eventually folded after three seasons.
The new endeavor, partially funded by MLS, will follow a much more conservative business plan.
It will kick off in 2008, with teams in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and sixth city to be determined.
“We knew we didn't have nine lives,” Foudy told the Miami Herald. “If we were going to do it again, we needed to do it right.”
“We've got a great group together in these six owners and investors,” she stated. “There is a great fan base and product out there.”
