Hitzfeld Signs Bayern Deal
(Goal.com) - Ottmar Hitzfeld will be in charge of Bayern Munich next season after he signed a one-year extension to his contract
The 58-year-old initially signed a short-term deal until the end of the season as he replaced the departed Felix Magath at the start of the year.
"Ottmar has totally convinced all of us with his work over the past few weeks," said general manager Uli Hoeness. "His decision to extend his contract with us means we can plan for next season with him."
Hitzfeld was also delighted, saying: "I am pleased to be able to continue my work here. The past few weeks have reminded me how much I enjoy coaching and I believe the team and I can still achieve a lot. That was an important reason to stay at Bayern."
Hitzfeld’s assistant Michael Henke has also been given another 12 months.
Since taking over, Hitzfeld has led Bayern past Real Madrid and into the quarter finals of the Champions League, although they still trail Bundesliga leaders Schalke by six points.
Hitzfeld won the Champions league with Bayern in his first stint at the club in 2001.
