Capello Handed Real Backing
(Soccer365.com) - Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has reiterated his faith in coach Fabio Capello and denied claims he has held talks with possible successors to the Italian.
Madrid have endured a troubled season, but it may still have a positive outcome with the club just two points behind Primera Liga leaders Barcelona with seven games to go.
And although the Madridista remain unconvinced that Capello is the man to take them forward, Calderon has no doubts.
He told Cadena Ser radio station: "Capello has a contract and is a great coach in my eyes. He was the man we needed."
A host of coaches have been linked with the Bernabeu post, including Rafael Benitez, Jose Mourinho and Bernd Schuster, but Calderon insists he has not discussed the position with any of them.
"I promise I haven't talked to anyone," he added. "That also applies to those (at the club) who are responsible for sporting matters as well.
"We are standing by our coach and we'll decide what's convenient for everyone in June."
Madrid have improved of late, although their title challenge has been helped by the inconsistent form of rivals Barca and Sevilla.
And Calderon insists his club are now well placed to land their first Primera Liga crown since 2003.
"The team is better than ever and very united," he said.
"We're right there when everyone had written us off two months ago.
"Things will be looking great if we win in Bilbao and then defeat Sevilla here at home.
"We're two points off the lead, and we've had some bad luck. But complaining doesn't help and we have to look ahead.
"We're doing well and can be at the top at any moment. The team is in good spirits and the players will give it their all."
Calderon also spoke in glowing terms about captain Raul, whose future remains uncertain.
He said: "Raul is a symbol of this club and has embodied the values of Real Madrid over his years here.
"He should decide what to do: stay here or go out on top, because that's what he deserves, and much more.
"But I think he wants to continue here and I would be thrilled if he decided to retire while wearing the Real Madrid shirt.
"He's is an exemplary player and it would be great to have him here with us."

Capello is useless!,he's a coward he always takes off when things get hard, he left Roma after the scudetto, because they had money-trouble, he left Juventus when they were relegated due to the scandals,....he always coached teams loaded with talent (Roma, juve,Milan,Real Madrid etc..)even my grandmother can win coaching star-filled line ups,let him coach a mediocre team and see what he can do it's not a big deal winning when you buy the best players in the world.I praise the coaches that come out of nowhere with marginal line ups, Morinho with Porto and spalletti with Roma are perfect examples.
