De Rosario Rejects New Deal Offer
(Soccer365.com) - Houston attack ace Dwayne De Rosario has turned down a new contract offer, claiming the game has changed with the advent of MLS’ Designated Player rule.
The Canada international bristles at the thought of remaining underpaid, what with the arrival of big money signings like David Beckham and Cuauhtémoc Blanco; last season, De Rosario was only the 46th highest paid player in the league.
"It wasn't good enough," De Rosario told the Houston Chronicle of the Dynamo’s latest offer. "It's very frustrating."
"At the end of the day, the only thing I haven't accomplished is being MVP of the league, and I'm going to try to win it this year to get more leverage - but can I get any more leverage? Two times I was runner-up for the MVP, and we came out champions last year."
The veteran also made allusion to the big dollars paid to young stars such as Freddy Adu.
Concluded De Rosario: "It's definitely frustrating when you look at certain guys who haven't accomplished what I've accomplished or half of what I've accomplished, but are getting top dollars,"

He has a point. And he's not the only underpaid player in the league. More players need to step-up and do the same.

De Rosario was the best Dynamo player and the reason they won the title. He's grossly underpaid, he's proven his worth in this league whereas Beckham and Blanco have not. He deserves better.

See I told you all that with Beckham coming to America it would cause many problems in the MLS. I think we will see more & more of this as time goes on. It's starting to look like the old NASL. A train ready to come off the tracks!

I think your right more players will put their foot down & demand more money & why not! If the MLS can fork out the insane sum that ugly English Limey Beckham will get they should pass that same money around to all the home grown players & give them a reason to want to play.

No soccer player in the world is underpaid or overpaid. It is a near perfect market because of the ease of transfer and the multiple leagues. He has every right to turn down a contract and should just go seek a better deal elsewhwere. If it isn't forthcoming he was getting what he was worth.
