Hitzfeld: Kahn Still Number One

(Soccer365.com) - Despite impressing against AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Michael Rensing remains second choice at the Allianz Arena.

The 22-year-old excelled while standing in for the suspended Oliver Kahn, making two superb point-blank saves in the first half.

But his 37-year-old mentor will be back between the posts against Hannover in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

"We all know that Kahn is our number one, but I am delighted for Rensing that he fulfilled our expectations," said coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

"It is good to know that whenever Kahn is unavailable we have him - and his chance will come soon."

Kahn's contract expires in 2008, but until then former Germany Under-21 international Rensing will have to play second fiddle.

Rather than facing Hannover on Saturday, Rensing will travel with Bayern's second team to play against Karlsruhe's reserves.

"We all know what the situation is at the club and that won't change after one game," he added.

"But I have showed I can be relied on in an important game and obviously I am happy my performance has been recognised.

"However, I make no secret of the fact that I want to play regularly."

I give credit to Rensing but Kahn still Rulez. I don't mean he is the best Keeper in the world (Saves and Physicallness wise) but in my opinion he is the craziest. Which you need to play Keeper. His on field prescence is enourmous. I would be so afraid to play against him because he would probably punch me in the face and take the red card. He is still my favorite goalkeeper in the world. This is because I grew up watching him be number one. I think Rensing will make a great replacement though. I was watching him play U-21 international and he juked an England forward with the ball in the box at his [Rensing] feet. Though he will never match Kahn's on field presence.

Keep it comnig, writers, this is good stuff.
