Mathis Content With NYRB Move
(Soccer365.com) - New York catch Clint Mathis believes his late preseason trade from Colorado was probably in his best interest and says he is fitting in well on his Big Apple return.
The former MetroStars ace was set to be a back-up in Denver and figures joining a team full of familiar faces –including World Cup 2002 coach Bruce Arena and former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna - was the top option.
"I talked to Fernando (Clavijo, Colorado coach) - we've always had a good relationship - and thought it might be a better situation for me to try to get out," Mathis ESPN Soccernet. "He asked me which teams I would be interested in and New York was one of them."
"To be back with a group of guys, like Bruce, that I've worked with for many years and also played with these other guys... it was a situation where I was comfortable (with)… I thought that these guys would bring out the best in me."
