Real Madrid tops Valencia
Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Garcia Sergio Ramos scored in the 73rd minute to give Read Madrid a 2-1 win over Valencia on Saturday in a battle of two of the top four teams in the Spanish La Liga.
Ruud van Nistelrooy also scored for Real Madrid, which started the day in third and climbed into second, just two points behind Barcelona.
Nistelrooy's 16th goal of the season, a beautiful curling volley from the top of the box in the 18th minute, put Real up 1-0. Valencia's Fernando Morientes tied the game in the 52nd minute.
Valencia also could have moved into second with a victory but its hold on the fourth spot is secure for at least another week.
In Saturday's other game, Darko Kovacevic and Bortolini Savio scored as Real Sociedad upset Atletico Madrid, 2-0. Even with the win, Real Sociedad is still next to last in the standings. Atletico Madrid remained tied for fifth.
