The Brazilian superstar had been linked with a move to Serie A in the summer, but he states that he has not intention of leaving Camp Nou.

Speculation had continued throughout a season that saw him criticised for lack of form and being overweight, but an upturn in form in recent weeks has changed everything again.

"I am very happy at Barcelona and want to stay here for many years," Ronaldinho said.

"I have always spoken about my future with calmness. I am happy here and all I want it to enjoy playing for Barça.

"What I like most is working hard on the pitch and to entertain people."

One factor that influenced the Barça number ten to make his announcement was the support shown to him by the club's supporters, who he thanked at a social event in Lloret de Mar.

"People are pleased with the way things are going, I see that every day and it is great that they show me their support," he said.

Reflecting on his absence from training earlier in the week, Ronaldinho explained that he is following a different regime from the first team after missing out on pre-season last summer.

Over 7,000 fans turned up to watch Frank Rijkaard's side be put through their paces at the Mini Estadi and many were disappointed that the former PSG ace stayed in the gymnasium.

"I am following a personalised programme and cannot be everywhere at once," he explained. "I am on my own and I cannot do any more."
