Too Soon To Label Ronaldo The Best - Pele
(Goal.com) - Pele believes that one good season is not enough for Cristiano Ronaldo to be labelled as the best player in the world.
There has been much talk of the young Portuguese winger having become the best in the world through his much improved form this season, but Pele believes it is still a few years too early.
"Cristiano Ronaldo, today, is one of the good players, he plays very good in England," Pele told Sky Sports News.
"But to mention him as the best player in the world, I thnk it is very soon.
"You have Kaka, who plays very well and I think he is the same level.
"Some years ago - four or five years ago - we had Ronaldinho in good shape.
"I think to compare Cristiano with the great players is too soon.
"We have to wait a little bit. Let's see in one or two years more if he can keep the same level."

I'm sorry to say, but pele doesn't know what he is talking about. To say Ronaldo is not the best player in the world right now is rubbish,he is the hottest player on the planet right now. Although, Kaka is the heart and soul of milan and the only reason why they are still in the champions league. United should go after him this summer.

C. Ronaldo is definetely one of the best right now,he's aprt of a new wave of talent, out of them is the most complete,(Messi,De Rossi,Tevez,Rooney,Fabergas, just to name some,he's well on his way to become legendary.

There's a shock. Brazil bias by a Brazilian. Kaka is an outstanding player. There's no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo has had an awesome year. Sorry Pele, this year Cristiano is the best player in the world.

Pele Pele Pele. Sounds like Pele is grumpy bitter old man living in the past. Pele's time in soccer is over. He should just fade away, go back to recording those cheesy guitar albums he likes to put out. I think Ronaldo is doing just fine & it's tougher for Ronaldo as well as the modern defenders are much quicker & better skilled than the big oafs' Pele used to run circles around. Hey Pele! Your an old man now! So be an old man! Lighten up on Ronaldo. It's his time now, not yours!

I partially agree with Pele. He was an oustanding player, and a season is a litle early, but there is no doubt that Ronaldo will just keep improving. He is already an outstanding player, watching his latest champions lague game against Roma proves it.

Pele was one of the greatest players the game has ever seen no doubt about that but he does come off as a bitter old man. He spends loads of time talking bad about the up & coming players' in the game now & there's no need for it. Ronaldo is not the only player he makes remarks about but it's something he should not be doing. He should be above all that.

Pele is right, almost everyone who posted a comment referred to Ronaldo as the 'hottest'. That is not the same as the best in the world. If i remember correctly a couple of years ago people were anointing Wayne Rooney as a great one, and i would stop short of saying that right now. I will agree that right now Ronaldo is on a streak that no one can compare to right now.

ronaldo is one of the the best this year. but pele is right, its too early to name him the best, ronaldo needs a few more years at this form to go into the books as one of the world's elite. but hes amazing and should be able to do it.

Pele should know his place. Of course he has to be looked upon as one of the greatest player's to ever grace the game. You all need to keep in mind Ronaldo has not claimed he's the greatest player, other people have put that label upon him. He himself has stated he still has lot's more to learn. Pele is old, disgrunted, bitter . If any of you could do better than what Ronaldo is doing then step up! If not, shut up & cut the kid some slack!

I'm from Brazil & even I think Pele is way out of line. The game has changed a great deal since he played which is decades ago. He really is a bitter old man & he needs to keep quiet. Ronaldo is really one of the best in the world. He himself has not claimed so but he really is. Pele is making himself out to be what he really is which is an unhappy old man & an idiot . He really needs to keep quiet.

I saw the replay of Messi's goal today. And while we're throwing out wild comparisons...it looked a lot like Maradona's goal against England in '86. Yeah that goal. They both beat about 6 players alone on a run from midfield. Wow.

Messi's goal was ridiculous. Very similar to Maradona's. Every time I watch Messi I can't help but think "What was Pekerman thinking keeping him out of the match vs Germany?"
Posted by: Ghost Rider | April 20, 2007 05:41 PM
i was in germany to watch all argentina games. you can just see how mad i felt .
a bout milan ronaldo scores every time he plays real mad must oh they crying now .

Yes, Pele was great but he has to stop making excuses about how things were harder back then physically. Back then they didn't have the defesive systems and intracacies that they have today. It is almost impossible to keep the ball for more than 8 seconds unless you are Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. If Pele were playing soccer in current times, I think he would be very good but I don't think he would measure up against the 2 I've mentioned above. Give credit where credit is due and stop trying to hang on to the greatest player that ever played title because it wasn't you anyways it was Maradona and I think that will change with Cristiano or Lionel if it already hasn't.

Normally I don't agree with anything you post giova but your right on this topic. Pele would have a rough time with the modern day defenders as nowadays defenders are just as fast & just as skilled on the ball as the forwards they mark. No disrespect to Pele but he's living in the past & comes off as bitter. Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi have never claimed to bethe best players' in the world. Others' have thrown those titles on them. They are just kids' but they are both doing a fine job & it's something that deems respect.

The older Pele get's it seems the more bitter he becomes. He should just keep quiet. Even the players of Brazil's national team don't think that much of him. Hey Pele! You were a great player in your time! You did many great things for the game but you have been retired for a long time now. Your time has past. Stay retired in grace & quit knocking all the gifted players' of today as they are doing the best they can. Go take up a hobby or something.

I think Ronaldo is a very skilled player, but I don't think he is worthy of being called the worlds best player.I agree with Pele,I think if Ronaldo can keep playing how he's playing for two or three years then maybe he will be worthy of it.
Posted by: anonymous | April 22, 2007 08:12 PM
Come on guys!what is the World's best player mean????Someone can be the worlds best player even in one month depending on the qualitative statistics! It is just like a player of the year, month, week etc. Then why someone who qualify to be the World Best Player should wait until four years ro so as Mr.Pele proposing????!!!!!This is rediculous!
I guess Mr.Pele was worried thinking that C.Ronaldo would claim his title as a football legend in the world!
