Beckham Giving Pelé Déjà Vu

(Soccer365.com) - Soccer legend Pelé has conceded that the impending arrival of David Beckham in Los Angeles is reminding him of the days when he led a star line of NASL recruits back in the 70’s.

The former New York Cosmos and Brazil revelation believes the former England skipper’s move overseas can only pay dividends for the 10-year old MLS.

“It’s almost the same,” he noted. “The game wasn’t as popular when we came - the first year was rough.”

“The thing with Beckham, they’ve got everything set up already,” Pelé asserted. “The league is okay, the team is established.”

“They have done a lot to get everything down.”

Ah! Pele! What a great player he was :) What Pele seems to forget is when he came to America he was still at the height of his powers' & a true soccer great. Yes with Beckham coming it's a lot like when Pele came but Beckham doesn't have the talent or staying power to make the same impact on the American game that Pele did. The Beckham media blitz will fizzle out just as fast as it's about to land sad to say.

Man Pele is so addicted to attention that he will say anything. He had his time & he made is mark so the old man should fade away with some grace. Hard to believe he would actually say anything about Beckham when you consider Beckham is not even a good player.

Don't hate on Pele Dave.

beckham is good... but pele was unbelievable

he was no Maradona

The only thing Beckham has on edge on when it comes to Pele & Maradona is Beckham dispite being a poor professional player in my opinion he's very savy in business. He & his army of agents were able to create the Beckham myth & make him larger than life. Also Beckham was very lucky to always be playing for big name club teams where the overall strength & talent of the squads' he's been part of were able to make him look so much better than he actually was. Also this is a typical English marketing ploy. They always seem to shove an English personality down our throats regardless if we like it or not. Next up as an English media darling is Frank Lampard. He's not going anywhere. No matter what we all might think of these two they will keep being shoved in our faces. I've never ever been to a Galaxy game & with Beckham coming I for sure won't be changing my ways or going to a Galaxy game anytime soon. The Beckham fame machine will soon grind to a hault anyway & fade away as fast as it came just like everything else in Los Angeles & Hollywood. Here today, gone tomorrow so they say.

yea beckham has always been on a big club team full of talent, but he also started for those talented teams. why, because he's good

good for what?

Beckham shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Pele'. What a world of difference!!! Pele' was actually a real soccer player, one of the best ever, beckaham is a joke as a player.

I'm with Giova on this one. You say Beckham is good? Ok, good for what?

Damn u guys are harsh on beckham, any way u say it a player is as good as his game. Pele showed the world his talen and love for soccer and it amazed us in every way possible. Beckham has had his glory moments and such, but its when he actually comes to the MLS that we will see what he can do and lets hope he shows some good talent overseas like Pele did.

It's really great that people are srhanig this information.
