Bradley officially sheds Interim tag
The U.S. Soccer Federation announced today that Bob Bradley has been named the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, removing the interim tag that Bradley has held since December.
He now officially replace Bruce Arena as the head man, after a 3-0-1 stint as Interim manager in post-World Cup friendly matches, including a 2-0 win over Mexico. Before Bradley had been named Interim manager, Jurgen Klinsmann withdrew his name from consideration.
"I am very proud and honored to be named head coach of the U.S. National Team," Bradley said at the introductory news conference. "The work throughout this year has established a good foundation and instilled in the players the ideas that we need to carry with us in order to progress as a team. Our goal is clear: to build a team capable of being successful in the 2010 World Cup. We are off to a very good start, and I am looking forward to the challenging road ahead."
Bradley faces a busy summer as US Head Coach. The US Men's team will compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup competition in June, with a chance to advance to the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009. Bradley will also face a stiff challenge in the Copa America in July. The Americans have Argentina, Paraguay, and Colombia in their group.
USSF President Sunil Gulati thinks Bradley will rise to the challenge.
"Bob Bradley has shown every one in the past few months just how ready he is for this job," Gulati said. "Every decision he has made has been about the betterment of the team, and the betterment of the program, not about 'what might be best for the future of Bob Bradley.' While it has only been a few months, you can already see those decisions paying dividends. I firmly believe Bob has the ability to take this program forward."
Bradley is also the head coach of the Under-23 National Team, which will be trying qualify for the Beijing Olympics over the next few months.

Well, good for Bradley. Best of luck to him.
But for some reason, I can't help being disappointed. What has to happen before the USSF is conducting a search to replace Gulati? All signs point to his ineffectiveness as a leader and decision maker. He has again stunted the growth of US Soccer.
