Nash: Soccer Helped Make Me MVP
(Soccer365.com) - Phoenix Suns star guard Steve Nash claims soccer gave him the foundation for growing a basketball repertoire that has seen him win two NBA MVP trophies.
The Canadian was raised in a “football family” with roots in the U.K. and brother Martin plays professionally in USL.
“Soccer taught me a lot of coordination and footwork, skills and vision,” Nash told the San Diego Union Tribune. “I had a very passionate father who loved it, so you know it was a lot of fun for us.”
“It really helped my basketball career,” claims Nash, who is currently on the NBA title trail with the Suns.
“A lot of the skills are the same on the soccer field and the basketball court, so when I was allowed to actually use my hands, it almost felt unfair for me.”
