U.S. returns to pitch vs. rival Canada
Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The United States women's national team continues preparations for the FIFA World Cup by playing fellow qualifier Canada on Saturday.
"They are a highly committed team and the rivalry between the U.S. and Canada makes both teams better," U.S. coach Greg Ryan said. "It will be another opportunity for us to get players quality minutes against a Women's World Cup- caliber opponent."
The U.S. has won six straight and is undefeated this year (6-0-2). The top- ranked Americans haven't played since defeating Mexico, 5-0, on April 14. Saturday's game is at 7:30 p.m. EST at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
For the first time in team history the U.S. team will wear a special edition pink jersey to support and promote Breast Cancer Awareness on Mother's Day weekend.
The U.S. will have another month off before playing China in the first game of the "Send-Off Series" for the World Cup, which is Sept. 10-30 in China.
