U.S. women rout Canada

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Abby Wambach scored twice as the United States Women's National Team scored on six of its seven shots on goal to extend its unbeaten streak to 41 games with a 6-2 win over Canada on Saturday night.

Lindsay Tarpley, Lori Chalupny, Kristine Lilly and Heather O'Reilly also scored for the top-ranked Americans. The teams combined for all eight goals on just 10 combined shots on goal.

"They threw a lot of numbers forward and that's why you saw a lot of goals in this game," U.S. coach Greg Ryan said. "They threw numbers forward, and then we countered and had great chances."

"They scored two goals, but we kept finishing and that was the difference," Lilly said. "Canada is a great team, they are a World Cup team and they are a destructive team and you saw that tonight. Once we started to calm the ball down and play our game we finished some great goals."

U.S. defender Heather Mitts was injured in the middle of the first half and was taken off the field on a stretcher. She was in obvious pain and is scheduled to have an MRI on her left knee.

The Americans, 7-0-2 this year, are off until playing China on June 16 in the first game of a six-game "Send-Off Series" for the World Cup, which is Sept. 10-30 in China.
