Adu Warns Of Beckham Mis-Hype
(Soccer365.com) - Real Salt Lake playmaker Freddy Adu has suggested some folks should probably keep their David Beckham expectations in check as the England star gets set to arrive to MLS.
The teen phenom knows a thing or two about the pressure to meet expectations, and says fans less familiar with the recently crowned La Liga champion need to appreciate the soccer icon for his particular talents.
"Just watch," Adu warned the Daily Breeze. "Everybody is going to expect him to score three goals a game - when he doesn't, the reaction is going to be ‘Oh, he's paid all that money’.”
"I hope people appreciate what Beckham brings to the game: his skill, his passion, his vision."

I think fans' of the game in the states will be very disapointed with this entire Beck's thing about to land there. If anybody actually thinks one player, in this case Beck's is going to lift American soccer into some type of Golden Age needs to be on meds' as it's not going to happen. For that to become reality the league there would have to be filled with loads of world class players' from all four corners of the globe. Players' with talents & skills that are far above what Beck's has to offer & that will not happen as the league & clubs have money to sign maybe one or two key players' but not an entire squad. A year from now nobody in the states will hardly be saying a word about Beck's, just wait & see.

Yeah look at what happened to the N.A.S.L. they had both Pele and Beckanbauer and that league didn't work.

King I really do not think it's going to be a bed of roses for Beckham in the MLS. of course the level of skill in the MLS is far below European standards but one thing about American players' what they lack in skill & soccer smarts they more than make up for in plain toughness. I think a lot of players' in the MLS are quite unhappy about the amount of money he will get compared to the mere pocket change they get so I'm looking for some players' at least to go after him in games. I'm not saying it's right but I think it will happen. One thing about Beckham & his history in the game is he's very prone to injury as he's not very strong so I think he will be picking up more than his fair share of injuries as a result of playing in the MLS. I do agree with you though as many players' in the past far better than Beckham could ever hope to be went to America & failed & in the long tern Beckham will fail as well.

Yeah, unfortunately I pretty much agree with what everyone has said. I'm trying to be optimistic that it won't be like NASL. I believe soccer in the US is in a better state since then with more talent, support and $. But Beckham isn't going to change things that much. A hot story for a year, then probably nothing... unless he just totally bolsters the Galaxy and they go to the final...then we've got more hype for another season.

I don't think beckham is going to do as well as people hope. And I think all of this publicity has gone to his head.
