Alan Smith To Sign For Newcastle

(Goal.com) - Manchester United's Alan Smith is set to sign for Newcastle United after Sam Allardyce reportedly won the race for his signature.

Smith has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following the Premiership champions ambitious activity in the transfer market.

The former Leeds United star, who has been used in midfield as well as in attack during his career, has expressed a desire to remain with United, but it now looks as if he will be moving North to St James' Park.

Smith's United career suffered from an horrific leg break during a match against Liverpool, which kept him out for close to a year, but he fought back bravely and played his part in the closing stages of United's Premiership winning season.

He has attacted interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham, but it seems Newcastle have won the race to sign Smith for around £4m.

The prospect of a midfield duo of Smith and Joey Barton will ensure United will not be seen as a soft touch next season.

Its a shame. I think Smith could have been a great player for United if he didn't suffer so many injuries. Oh well at least that will allow Saha to stay

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Magpies. With Smith we will surely win the cup again. The Toon is now unstoppable. We will win every competition from the F.A. Cup to the Champions league.

Keeeper it looks like Mommy needs to cut u off of the sweets & candies again ur getting too hyper. The Toon have a long way to go before taking the EPL & the FA Cup Crowns.

Sugar does not make you hyper it is a wives tail. Sugar gives you a short burst of energy but nothing long enough to right on a blog. So gooooooooooooooooooooooooo Newcastle United. Howay the lads.

Smith will be a nice addition to Newcastle. But calm down King.

Smith will fit in well with Newcastle but too bad they have no chance of winning silverware in the near future. For them to do that they would have to make it through Man Utd and they're going to dominate the league for many many years to come

Smith is rubbish

Newcastle is a joke dudes!
