Bradley's Boys Coast To Win
(Soccer365.com) The United States men’s national team put in a solid performance to defeat El Salvador 4-0 on Wednesday evening at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
DaMarcus Beasley led the way for the U.S. with a goal in each half. Landon Donovan and Taylor Twellman rounded out the scoring.
With the victory the Red, White and Blue win Group B and earn the right to play the third place finisher from Group A or Group C on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Bob Bradley’s team wasted no time setting the tone for the game taking the attack to an El Salvador side seemingly hoping to force a 0-0 draw.
Beasley ended those hopes of the visitor’s in the 34th minute. After a U.S. corner kick was weakly headed to the top of the box, Beasley calmly one touched the ball to the far corner.
The U.S continued to dominate possession and chances and doubled the score one minute into stoppage time from the penalty spot. Benny Feilhaber created the chance when his cross was knocked down by a defender’s ill placed hand.
Donovan made El Salvador pay from the spot but in an unusually slow fashion. The LA Galaxy player’s first attempt was saved by a diving goalkeeper Montes but Donovan was able to knock home the rebound. Michael Bradley was however called for being in the box before the kick the goal was waived off.
His second attempt went straight down the pipe but left Montes no chance as he had committed to his left and was forced to watch the ball hit the net.
El Salvador was eager to prove themselves and narrow the margin in the second half and with a commitment to attack created several chances. The U.S. defense was, however, able to thwart every attack.
The attack of El Salvador created more open space in the central portion of the field and Beasley finally took advantage. Beasley won a ball in the defensive third but pushed into attack. After taking the ball over midfield, he found Brian Ching in the center of the field. Ching unselfishly found Twellman at the top of the box and the Rev’s forward took one touch and shot between the wickets of the onrushing Montes.
Beasley finished what he started with his right footed shot in the 89th minute. The tally was set up once again by unselfish play among the U.S. side with Ching finding Clint Dempsey who played to Beasley making a run from the far side.

Since when has El Salvador been a power in world soccer? When the US starts beating teams like Argentina Brazil Italy Germany France England Holland Spain & Portugal time after time then you can say >> Oh yeah!

Mr Ken Arbat, you can only beat the team that takes the field against you. The first step would be scheduling better matches when the opportunity presents itself. The US has definitely been guilty of scheduling a bunch a bunch minnows in friendlies. Thankfully, they accepted a bid to play Copa America and a friendly at Sweden in August. It remains to be seen if the US will even send its A-team, but we'll see. I'm not even expecting much, but at least the experience of playing Argentina and Sweden in hostile territory will help in future international tournaments.
As for the Gold Cup and El Salvador, those who support US Soccer has every right to applaud. It is a good thing that the US is picking apart weaker opponents when playing in CONCACAF events. And if they can win the Gold Cup, they'll get to compete in the Confederations Cup against champions from other regions... more good competitions and excitement for US soccer.

Please don't refer to me as Ken as that's an English/Scotch name & I'm neither, thank you! When the Yanks can take on a very great team like say Italy or Germany or Argentina, Brazil or England then I will eat my words & respect them. Until then can beat teams like this over & over they do not deem respect.

I think we should get more invovled at the youth level.

Arbat, like I said, the US should want those chances and I think they are working to get those chances. And unless you know a way to move the US halfway across the world to join UEFA or COMNEBOL, then there are going to be a lot of matches against El Salvador and T&T on the schedule no matter what. And if they're on your schedule you might as well beat them while developing young talent and enjoy it when you do.

Only thing US really beats, is their meat. They always crash & burn in games that really count against major powerful soccer nations. Stop making excuses for them Yank! Admit & come to terms with the fact your US team is second rate & actually quite weak when it really counts!

Okay they don't always crash and burn in games that really count against major powerful soccer nations just Watch US. vs. Portugal 2002 World cup.

2002 was quite a while ago Lad. What really counts is their overall international record & what big teams they are beating now. Look Lad, the US international record is one of the worse in the world. Proof of that is they have never won the world cup. Your country cant say that Lad. Your second, maybe even third rate when it comes to soccer & always will be Lad.
