Dempsey Doesn’t Mind Boo Birds
(Soccer365.com) - U.S. Men’s National Team goal hero Clint Dempsey claims he isn’t bothered when the team faces mass fan opposition in America, such as during Thursday’s 1-0 Gold Cup win over Guatemala.
The away fans, many of whom expatriates that have taken up residence in the States, jeered Landon Donovan and other players throughout the match – a typical occurrence when the ‘Nats host a CONCACAF side.
"It makes us a better team," said Dempsey, who netted midway through the first half on an assist from old New England teammate Taylor Twellman.
"Of course, we'd like to have more support but it is what it is," he shrugged.

Until soccer catches fire in the US, this is the way it's going to be; it'll toughen them up and gain the respect they deserve.

You cant really say they suck until you have put the effort in that they have. im sure that you wont grow up to be as great a player as all of them. and they arent that bad considering this year they have rolled over China, Denmark, Mexico, Ecuador, and Guatemala rarely had the ball. 10 of our 23 players that played on thursday play abroad and one of the best players for our national team, Jonathan Spector who plays for West Ham is known better in England than the United States. You cant criticize your own country but im sticking by them all the way.

Yeah Dry Dockin it start workin' as hard as them then say they stink. And what are you talkin about Italy in the World Cup. They were not playing dirty it was the referee who stunk. He made quite a few horrendous calls. And they fought hard. After the game a few on the American side needed I.V.s because they were so dehydrated. And if you are not proud of American soccer don't blog on an American soccer website.

Ok kids' now let's get something straight here. I know since your American you think your the best at everything & I know it hurt's to know that at soccer on the international level you have one of the worse teams out there you just need to come to terms with those facts. Only Americans' go to the world cup & trash talk other teams before games like some cheap WWF show.
Posted by: The Nutter | June 10, 2007 12:51 PM
Okay. you wrong Nutter. The U.S.A. has a formidable national side I am not saying that they are the best in the world. I am just saying that they don't stink. And it isn't the WWF anymore because that is the World Wildlife Federation and there was a big dispute over that name and the World Wrestling Federation lost it to the World Wildlife Foundation. It is now WWE. And the last time I check phirannas in the Amazon didn't trash talk eachother on T.V. So if you think people trash talk eachother on World Wildlife shows you are wrong.

Look, im american but i cant even stick up for our national team. not to say im not rooting for our boys. if they want to get stronger as a team though, they need to quit playing teams like china and start playing teams like france and england. donovan is garbage like the rest of the team. i do give props to dempsey though. we probably wont get better until soccer becomes a major sport and more people start playing the great game.
Posted by: Stonewall | June 11, 2007 01:35 PM
Soccer will never become a major sport in America nor will it ever be a strong part of the American sports' culture. Americans' are good at pretty much all other sports but have never developed past the weekend league mentality & skill level of the game. Americas' have poor below level soccer brains & do not understand even general or the most basic soccer tactics. Soccer has been in America for well over one hundred years. If they have not been able to catch on to the most basic levels to complete with the world by now they never will.
Posted by: Arbat | June 11, 2007 08:54 PM
what the heck does "if they have not been able to catch on to the most basic levels" mean. and "americans have poor below level soccer brains and do not understand even general or the most basic tactics". i understand them and i am not even in college. you might not understand them and if so you are one of the reasons our national team is not elite. so if you really care about our national team why dont you stop trash talking them behind there backs and start learning the "most basic levels of soccer".
Posted by: Midfieldmaestro | June 12, 2007 10:34 AM
Yeah. I agree maestro. If the U.S.A. stinks so bad at soccer why don't you guys stop complaining and make it better by volunteering at the youth level and helping children lean "most basic levels of soccer".

Yea Nutter your very wrong and very revealing of your obvious true self, someone who is in denial b/c the United States is the best team in the CONCACAF... 27 games straight unbeaten in Gold Cup play doesnt lie... they def. aren't even close to being one of the worse teams in the world b/c they obviously qualified for the World Cup... stupidity gives the informed the motive to strike.. so please... PLEASE!!!!... have some sort of rebutle..
Posted by: Imakeeper | June 12, 2007 02:03 PM
Like CONCACAF is the MT. Everest of world soccer? Give us a break! America always seem to trip over their own two left feet when it matters most in big games in soccer & always will. The stupidity is in your mentality & not being able to see the big picture & the big picture is when it comes to soccer at the international level other than your womens' national team program your mens' national team program just stinks! When's the last time your mens' national team ever won the world cup? Answer me please! Shower me with you wise know it all word's of wisdom! When you do go into a big cup & bomb out of course you blame it on the ref's bad calls, dirty cheating teams & on & on. Your so thick in the head you never stop to think about the root of the problem that seems to always cause you to fail when it matters most >> (You!) That's who! So go on thinking your the master's of CONCACAF as it's nothing more than a kiddie pool to be found in the vast ocean of world soccer!

hey ken if your not from america than stop talking about our national squad like they are a piece of trash. if you are not american than you are probably english and then that does not give you any room to talk about national teams winning big cups. great they won one in 1966. no body cares about that anymore. and the present national team played just about as bad as the US national team in the cup
Posted by: Anonymous | June 13, 2007 10:45 AM
What's so special about being American? Americans' are no better or worse than any culture of people. Still they have never really been very good at soccer. At least at the mens' senior national team level & chances are will never be. What's this about England? Sure they get pumped up to be better than they actually are but at least those people can say they won a world cup. Their overall track record as far as international soccer goes is light years better that America could ever hope to be. Who's the person here that stated at last years world cup the US were close to beating Italy as if US soccer is on the same level as the Italians? What a crock! Italy is a million times better of a natioanl side than America could ever dream of being. They won the world cup FOUR TIMES !!!! They have also made it to the final game in the world cup more times than any national besides Germany as well. If people like myself do not think much of American soccer so what! That's our right & opinion. I can't speak for anybody else here but the world is made up of more countries than America. You Yanks think it's your birth right to be the best & considered the best at everything & that's just not reality. When it comes to international soccer you should face the music & know your place little boys'. That is your near the bottom of the international soccer totem pole.

Hi. I'm Chuck Norris and Soccer is starting to get better in the U.S. of A. And I believe that we should not put American soccer down by talking bad about it but rather try to talk about how we can help improve such as using your guys expert knowledge to teach the youth about soccer and strategies of soccer. i agree with who ever put USA is almost as good as Italy because the score was ONE-ONE. that is what we call a tie and the best record against Italy in the world cup. o and "chuck norris" just come here to talk soccer and stop making a fool of yourself

The U.S.A. Womens National team has won the world cup.

Anonymous, you need your head examined. To say the US is almost as good as Italy in soccer shows you have serious mental issues & do not live in collective reality. First of all Italy has won the world cup going back to the 1930's a total of four times. That's a great track record if you ask me. Also aside from Germany Italy has made it to the final game of the world cup more times than any nation if I'm correct. Again, that's a great track record. The US has never won the world cup or even made it to the final game of the world cup so for you to compare the US to Italy is like trying to compare a Ford Focus to a Ferrari. You make no sense. Chances are your American. That's not such a bad thing but I think you fall under that group of Americans' that are so stupid you think your the best at everything when in reality your best at running your mouth. That seem's to be a typical American trait for a lot of Americans'. You should stop & think before you post here because when you don't you end up looking foolish. When the US win's the world cup four or more times then you can shout to the heavens' that they are as good as the Italians. Until then try not to make such a fool of yourself. and here's a guy who spends all day picking fights with kids on the internet hiding behind a million different stupid pseudonyms...and he's calling other people foolish...hey mate check the mirror.
Posted by: the kopper | June 14, 2007 01:28 PM
Sounds like you should check the mirror kopper, mate! Just because this guy or anybody else might not share the same opinion or views that you & your kids' do doesn't make them foolish. The idiot that stated the US is almost is good as Italy deserved to get slammed as that's a pretty foolish thing to say mate! So put that in yer tea dude & choke on it!
Posted by: Dave | June 14, 2007 04:24 PM
hey kung fu dude...please tell me the score of our last game against italy (1-1 tied)...the one in this decade not 70 years ago because i really do not care about that anymore because that does not say anything about the present national team...were in the 2000's so start talking about them...not something that does not even matter anymore...
Posted by: Anonymous | June 14, 2007 05:50 PM
Yea ok US tied Italy. Ok so what. Who won the last world cup & who was knocked out of the first round in that group? The US! That's who! They had 3 games, lost two of them & the goal they were given credit for against Italy was gifted to them by Italy as it was an own goal Italy scored for them. Truth hurt's huh! Yea man that's really something to brag about! ... Hey! We tied Italy! But yea uh, they did score an own goal for us :(
Posted by: Dave | June 14, 2007 10:50 PM
It's kind of funny reading everybodys' post. The pro American camp here goes on about how the US is almost as good as Italy makes me laugh the most. What Dave has brought up is right. If it wasn't for the fact that in the game against Italy had the Italians' not scored an own goal for the US then the Americans' would have lost all three games in round one of the 06 world cup. The US didn't actually tie Italy. The Italians' tied the game from them. It was the only game Italy played in poor form for the entire world cup. Other than that Italy pretty much took apart everyone they came up against which included Germany. That was one of the best games of the world cup when they took down Germany. Those two goals the Italians scored were world class. No team or no keeper in the world could have been able to stop them & no way is the US anywhere near as good as Italy. It's really stupid for people to claim so. Dave it's funny all these yahoos' here saying well at least the US tied Italy. We never hear any of them say anything about that own goal Italy scored for the US in that game.
