Inzaghi Revelling In Recent Success

(Soccer365.com) - Filippo Inzaghi has enjoyed some good times during his career but at no time has he felt as good as he does now after leading AC Milan to Champions League glory and scoring twice for Italy on Saturday.

The 33-year-old's two strikes against Liverpool lifted Milan to a 2-1 victory in Athens less than two weeks ago, and his pair of goals at the Faroe Islands earned the Azzurri a triumph by the same scoreline.

"Athens has given me an incredible charge," Inzaghi said. "This is the most beautiful moment of my career."

The result has left Italy two points behind Group B leaders France.

"I knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, but the important thing was to take home the victory," Inzaghi said.

"Even if we had scored seven goals, we still would have only taken three points home."

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has had the difficult task of replacing Marcello Lippi, who was at the helm during last year's World Cup success in Germany.

The narrow margin of Saturday's win has not opened the floodgates of praise for him or his players in the Italian media.

"We had several opportunities to score," Donadoni said. "Had we won the game 4-1, no one would be criticising us."

Now the Italians will turn their attention to Lithuania, whom they face in Kaunas on Wednesday.

Yeah he scored twice, but once he scored with his arm...so that shouldn't have counted. If it's not a handball it should have been given to Pirlo. And what? He scored twice against Faroe Islands? Wow. Probably handballed one of those in as well, the little scavenger. I can't stand this guy.

Your right about that first goal. Lets put it this way. Say a shot had been sent off by a Milan player & it went off the arm of a Liverpool player you can bet your last red cent the referee would have awarded Milan a penalty. His second goal was a good one though. Still I really dont think Milan should have been allowed to play in Champions League this year after they were found guilty of the Italian leagues match fixxing scandal. They really came down hard on Juventous so they should have gave Milan the same treatment. To be realistic I think all the big clubs all over Europe cheat & bend the rules Thats why we see the same teams year in & year out in Champions League as they have the most money & clout but most do not get caught. Still that being said if a club is caught they should pay a price & be banned from European club cups no matter who they are. Its not fair to the clubs that dont cheat but then nothings fair & just in this world.

Yup Pat. I think the same way. The bigger clubs always have the advantage no matter where they come from. Money talks! This year in CL there were a few exceptions like the smaller Italian club Roma. They did well this year but then again even though they don't have a big name like say one of the Milans' or Juve they still have a world class player in Totti & a few others so they were able to mix it up with the bigger clubs in CL play. Still I also think if AC Milan was found guilty of the match fix scandal they should have been banned from the CL for at least this season. Problem with this site though is you have people that follow Italian teams for whatever reasons like people that follow English & German teams as well & all these people will make excuses for their favorite teams no matter what while pointing fingers' at the teams from countries they don't like & these clowns cry foul! I bet if the AC Milan fans found out a team from England was guilty of breaking the rules they would scream bloody murder! I'm not a Liverpool or AC Milan fan but I still think since Ac Milan was caught bending the rules they should have been punted like Juve. A crooked club is a crooked club no matter what league or country they come from. Nobody here can argue with me on that!

The second goal was a thing of beauty and you can't deny that. Inzaghi has been a finisher his whole career. You people should give him his credit. I'm glad he's back on the national team because nobody is better at scoring the big goals at crunch time, nobody.

That first goal was plain junk. It was total garbage & I wonder if Inzaghi is related to Maradona. Some of you keep dancing around what the main point is & that is Milan did not deserve to play in Champions League due to being found guilty of measures that are not considered legal by either the Italian Fa, FIFA & more important UEFA. Cheating is cheating no matter how you shake & bake it kid! To justify cheating is saying that you approve of being dishonest. I could care less who Inzaghi is or where Milan hails from the fact is that club cheated. If the world governing bodies of soccer do not step up & root out all the crooks in the sport then soccer will decend to being nothing more than an average sport on the world's stage. Root out the racist. Root out the crowd violence. Root out the cheats! Milan cheated! Plain & simple! Juve paid a big price! Milan should have paid a big price as well. Truth & reality is not based upon what you like or dislike about any country or team that play's the sport. It's based on set rules that every country & every professional club has to follow. Milan bended the rules! That's the truth! That's reality & you or anybody else cant deny they are crooked & cheats! If you don't believe me & want to wave your Italian flag go talk to Inter Milan & ask their manager & players' what they think of Juve & AC Milan. I bet they would rip them more than me kid!

Heres a history lesson for you soccer experts. Way back when at a time when Pool played Juve in a European cup fans' died that day. It never should have happened. Liverpool fans' got way way out of hand & Juve fan's, at least some of them paid the price with their lives. It was not right! Still as captured on film a Juve Fan was seen with a gun taking shot's at Liverpool fans'. The end result was Liverpool, along with the entire English soccer FA was banned from Europe. Not for a season but for years. It forced England to clean up their soccer scene & the end result is we have the Premiership which is the top league in the world now.

As for the Juve fan with a gun. Nothing came of that! Nothing at all. I've seen the tape many times & that act was ignored. That was then but it's also a very big part of the problem with Italian soccer. It planted the seeds for what's wrong about the game in Italy right now. Taking a title means nothing if it was not done the right way & if it was not done legal. I don't care what any of you Italians, or Italian soccer fans' think. If Mian this past year cheated which they did, they cheated! It's as simple as that. It really doesn't matter if it was done at the owner's level. They still cheated so the championship is tainted in the CL no matter what you think or say. Milan, the club as a whole are cheats! The real one's to blame for this mess & why we all argue over it is FIFA & UEFA as they are the biggest crooks by far. They turn away & looked the other way when it suits them. I have respect for English soccer as they faced the problem years ago, addressed it & cleaned up their act! I cannot say the same for the Italian FA. They are as crooked as they come. I'm Italian & it's situations like this that give Italy a bad name. As for you blind people here, shame on you.

You know nothing against Italy or Italian soccer & Italian soccer clubs but it does seem to look as if FIFA & UEFA handle the clubs from that country with questionable practices with kids gloves. Inter Milan & Roma both deserved to be in Champions League this year but you are correct as AC Milan didn't deserve to be there due to the infractions with the match fixing scandal they were found guilty of. They should have been sent down with Juve. It's not fair to the clubs that run their teams clean like Inter Milan & Roma & it's not fair to the other European clubs that made it to Champions League this season that didn't break any rules. I have nothing against the players from AC Milan just like I have nothing against the players from Juve but their clubs were found guilty in court & by the Italian FA of non-legal business practices & being dishonest is just that, dishonest so yes it's an empty victory for them. It also brings to light the very questionable business practices of FIFA & UEFA as they come down on some countries & some teams from some leagues but seem to look the other way with others. It can't be a wonder then that some clubs are more than willing to cheat to reach their objective's if they know very well they will not have to answer for it. Cheating is cheating & nobody here or anywhere else can make excuses for it as it's totally wrong.

That's a fair statement Ricardo. I'm Italian & not the least bit offended by your post as what you say is very true. Being Italian I was pulling for Roma in the CL. They have a great side & a good system & are one of the very good things to be found in Italian soccer. If Roma or Inter had gone all the way & took the CL title nobody could say anything as they would have won it fair. This cannot be said about AC Milan. They along with Juve put a black mark, like a dark cloud over Italian soccer. I love being Italian. I'm proud of my roots but I'm not going to support a crooked club just because they are Italian like me. No way! Italy & Italians' get a bad rap enough as it is so the last thing I'm going to do is support something that I know is wrong about Italian culture or in this case Italian soccer. The people here that make excuses for sides that cheat no matter if it's AC Milan or whoever are just biggots so of course Ricardo you will get stick from them sad to say.

I agree with pretty much everyone,if Milan cheated they should have paid the same price as Juventus, but we must remenber that the Milan on the field deserved the cup as they won with heart and experience,I was pulling for Roma who made me a fan and liverpool. But the players had nothing to do with that horrible situation in Italy, where "scandal" is a moderate word is ruining the entire sport, the guilty shoild pay although.

Yo wolfie! The players' from Juventus had nothing to do with the match fix scandal their club heads' were involved with either but they had to pay a price. The point is though the club AC Milan as a whole, meaning the club regardless if the players' or some players' actually knew or not were guilty. They were found guilty in court. They were found guilty by the Italian FA & that's a fact Jack! I really don't care how they played in the final. My point is they had no business being there in the first place! Your right, scandal run's through the entire sport, on all levels & in all leagues. Still there's no excuse for it & by UEFA, FIFA or whoever looking the other way & allowing AC Milan to take part in CL is ..WRONG! They are crooked! It also encourages more clubs to take the chance & cut corners like the bigger clubs. It doesn't help the game & it gives Italians a bad name. Say what you want. Milan on the field, Milan off the field didn't deserve the cup because they didn't deserve to be there in the first place! Remember back in 85 when that diaster & loss of life was the end result of fans' from Liverpool & Juventus clashing look what the end result was. They banned liverpool & English soccer from playing in Europe for not a season, but years! Ok what the heck did Liverpool's player's have to do with that? ...Nothing! They still paid the price! It forced the English FA to clean up the English game & what is the end result! ..The Premiership! It's the best league in the world right now! Hands down! Look I'm from an Italian family but I have to admit FIFA or UEFA or whatever has looked the other way with the wrong things about Italian soccer for years. Going back to 85. There were Italian Juventus fans with guns! Yeah that's right guns! involved with that riot & not a damm thing happened to Juventous or Italian soccer over it! Nothing!

The league in Italy right now is as dirty as it get's. It really is. There is no real law & order there at the moment & it's not getting better, only worse. I was reading a story where the Manager from Inter Milam had a hard time understanding why they could never take the title in serie A. After the scandal he said he now knows because Juventus & AC Milan were always cheating. Cheating is cheating & victory means nothing if you cut corners' & cheat to get the breaks. All it does is give the rest of the soccer world another reason to bash Italian soccer or Italians in general & as for some of the idiot post that are left here by some who call themselves Italian all I can say is it just makes Italians look even worse. Italian soccer has a lot to offer but first it needs to be cleaned up & have the crooked owners & violent ignorant racist fans' rooted out once & for all.

Some people cant handle the truth. Truth & reality to them is based on what their own personal views are & not on actual reality. Just like any country or any soccer federation Italy has many good things they have broght to the sport that have added to the overall flavor of the international game. Also they have some rotten elements to their game which I agree need to be rooted out. This also counts for all the other countries as well as for the most part they are no different. As for AC Milan well it really doesn't matter what country they hail from. The facts are as a club they cheated. It really doesn't matter at what level or what person or persons' attached to that club cheated. What matters is they cheated & UEFA & FIFA chose not to act on it for whatever reason. UEFA & FIFA are always going on with their battle cry .. "Stamp out racism in soccer" & "fair play" & all this & that but it's all talk & no action. They I think are far worse than many of the clubs that have an unfair advantage because they can cheat & bend the rules while other clubs are expected to tow the line. Like other's have mentioned here England were at one time forced to face the ugliness of their problems with soccer & they at least dealt with it. Does that make English soccer perfect? Of course not. Does that mean that there might be English clubs that still cheat & bend the rule? Of course it does. To me if a club is found guilty of doing something not considered legal they should be held accountable for those actions. It matters not if the club or team is from England, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, whatever. If they are dirty then they are dirty & should be cleaned up. Does AC Milan have a great side with great players ? They sure do. Should they have been allowed to play in Champions League this year after being found guilty of being involved in Italain soccer's match fixing scandal? No way! As it's not fair to the other Italian teams' like Roma & Inter Milan who play fair & follow the rules. This is not an issue where people can sit on the fence over. Either your in favor of cheating in soccer or your not! There is no gray area people!

You know people some of you might say ok what is the big deal about cheating? What real harm does it cause? My answer would be go ask Juventus! Look what happened to that club. Before the Italian match fixing scandal was dragged kicking & screaming into the light think back on the lineup Juventus had. It was a who's who list of some of the world's greatest players'. It really was. What did cheating get the club? Nothing at all! It's been well documented that it was the owner & his group of sidekicks attached to the club that were the puppet masters' in that scandal but look who had to pay the price! The players' & the fans' that's who! The owner shot his own club in the foot. He stained the name of one of the most famous clubs in the sport. I've read some stupid comments here about how unloyal some of the player's were for leaving the club after the scandal broke out. How were those players' unloyal? I cant blame them for wanting to leave. They did the right thing by leaving. Juventus as a club didn't need to cheat. They could take on all comers & win fair time in & time out. They have been as big if not bigger than Barcelona, Madrid, United, Bayern, Liverpool or any other big club from Europe. By cheating the owners' risked everything. They hurt the club by losing so many good players'. They put a black mark on the name of the club & they let down the fans as well. Nothing good came out of it. That's my point if a club cheats at whatever level it's bound to catch up to them sooner or later. It's not worth the risk. Like I said we all have our own personal views & what we feel is right & wrong. I'm sure none of you like myself ever want to feel like we are being cheated in anything in life & the same goes for sport. Playing fair is playing fair just like cheating is cheating. If your a true fan of the sport. If you know the difference between right & wrong your not going to make excuses for those clubs that do cheat in the sport. No matter where they are from.

blah blah blah blah blah...way to hijack this conversation Pat-Dave-James. Who are you arguing with? You keep saying the same thing over and over and over and talking to yourself?? Are you delusional? This is a story about Inzaghi, not the random "read a jerk lecturing about ethics" story. The horse is dead dude. Let it go.

Actually I think these people brought up an important issue with all the cheating going on in the sport which degrades the sport & does not make it stronger so kopper maybe your the one that is delusional Lad, not them. What's the bloody point of having leagues & cup's to play for if some bloody outfits are going to be allowed to cheat & not be held accountable for it? What's the point of having FIFA & the other governing bodies in the sport in charge if they are not doing their bloody job? It's a problem worldwide Son with the sport but Italy seems to be at the top of the crooked mountain heap at the moment & all the monkey business going on with soccer all over the world needs to be bloody well cleaned up!

Yo Kopper, kop this ... Cheating is cheating & a cheat is a cheat just like a crook is a crook. That's reality. How can any team play in the CL which is for champions when they are cheats in their own domestic league they play in? The horse is dead huh? Let it go? why should people who dont agree with clubs that cheat & get away with it while other clubs are expected to toe the line let it go? Maybe you were brought up to think it's ok to cheat, be dishonest, slip under the wire to get what you want, who knows? This Ken guy's right. What's the point in having leagues & cups with all these rules about this & that if it's not enforced & fair for all clubs? If your dirty, your dirty & your going to catch stick for it! Milan is dirty. They cheated. It was overlooked & then the end result was other clubs in Italy were not given a chance to play in CL because Milan were given the nod for something they didn't deserve.

In awe of that awnser! Really cool!
