Roma Still Fighting To Keep Chivu - Conti
(Goal.com) - Roma technical head Bruno Conti insists the club continue to fight to keep Christian Chivu.
Reports continue to alternate between a move away from the capital and a contract extension, as the Chivu saga runs, but Roma are giving it everything.
The problem with an extension is their 2.5 million cap on salaries, with Chivu demanding close to 4 million.
"Roma do not want to lose Chivu," said Conti. "Coach Luciano Spalletti will be waiting for him in July for pre-season training.
"If someone else wants him they must speak with the club, because he still has one year on his contract. We haven’t been contacted by anyone.
"We are working to extend his contract, like we have been doing with other players, we don’t want to lose anyone."
Roma do not want to go over 2.5 million, while Inter are said to be ready with a 4 million deal. Barcelona have not given up either.

Chivu is a great player. He had a great champions league campaign and was instrumental in Romas run to the quarters (save the second leg against Man United). He would be a worthy addition to Barca's aging defense.
