Schuster Wants To Take Over At Madrid
(Goal.com) - Bernd Schuster has said that he expects to become the new coach of Real Madrid this summer, despite Fabio Capello guiding the club to the league title.
The German coach was reported to have signed a pre-contract agreement to take over at the Bernabéu, when Madrid appeared to have little chance of winning anything in February.
Capello's future at the club is still up in the air despite Sunday's championship triumph and Schuster has made it clear that he wants to take the Italian's place.
"I do not want go mad about this and only want to say that I am geared towards coaching Real Madrid next season," Schuster explained.
"For a long time I have been preparing for to go there and Madrid is part of my plans.
"I am intrigued to see what will happen at Madrid over the next couple of weeks."
While Capello is rumoured to want to stay on, negotiations are due to take place between president Ramón Calderón and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic this week over the coach.
Schuster recognised that the title win could change his plans, but he will is ready to stay on at Getafe and guide them through their first ever European campaign.
"I am the coach of Getafe and still have a contract for another year," he continued.
"As finalists in the Copa del Rey we have qualified for the UEFA Cup, which is something to look forward to and something which I have helped achieve.
"I am secure at Getafe, all the rest is speculation."
Despite linking himself so heavily to a move, Schuster will have created no waves at Getafe as the club president, Ángel Torres Sánchez, is a staunch Real Madrid fan and understands the German's motives.

So are they going to get rid of the flat faced one, Capello or what? Wheres he going? What's all this about Schuster? Dudes! Managers & players move around so fast & so often from club 2 club nowadays it's hard to keep up with who's coaching who & who's playing for who!

I don't know how or why they would get rid of the coach who just won the Spanish League. It's beyond me or maybe just beyond my knowledge of the internal goings on over there. Maybe they're just rumours. Or maybe they're just stupid.

Capello is in the driver's seat;if he wants to stay he will, doesn't matter what Schuster wants. He's taking a chance on looking very foolish if Capello chooses to stay.

I agree with keeeperKing. Capello had a hell of a season, no one had faith in the team but him.

It's kind of like musical chairs with most professional clubs. Seems every year they all try to invent the wheel all over again. Managers come & go, so do the players. Even though the modern players are faster & stronger & the game has evolved more nowadays your never gonna see great sides that rule the soccer mountain for a decade or more like Madrid did in the 50's & 60's or how Ajax did in the 70's. Reason being is most teams don't keep the same core group of key players together for more than a couple of years now. The days of old are gone & not coming back. There are so many top teams loaded with top players but the reason these teams play hot & cold is players are always coming & going. They dont have enough time 2 gel as a team in most cases.
