Adu Flying To Seal Eagles Move

(Soccer365.com) Real Salt Lake have revealed that Benfica has agreed a fee for Freddy Adu. The U.S. Under-20 star will fly to Lisbon on Sunday to complete the transfer by signing a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants.

"Major League Soccer and Real Salt Lake have given permission to Freddy Adu to travel to Europe to continue discussions with Portuguese club Benfica," read a statement from RSL coach Jason Kreis. "We would like to thank Freddy for his time here and wish him the best of luck.

"Our organization will continue to focus and concentrate on the second half of the MLS season, with our recent success against Everton and Boca Juniors serving as a springboard towards a fresh start."

its about time for freddy to get out. he should have done so years ago when he had an offer from Inter

At least he's (Freddy) going to a league with a "LITTLE" competition. He wasn't ready to make a move to Italy, the second hardest league in the world, because the MLS didn't prepare him for that kind of competition. Playing against players that are out of their prime didn't help his development as a professional, so maybe playing a few games a year against "ACTUAL" professionals in the Portuguese Superliga-will better prepare him for the 2010 World Cup with his native GHANA.

I think Freddy will do well in the Portugese League. I don't think he was ready yet for the English Premier or the Italian Serie A.

Freddy is 18 - 2 to 3 years in Portugal will prepare him for the jump to England or Italy. Freddy will make it. If he does go to Benfica, he will enjoy it.

Wow freddy adu is one of the most overrated futbol players rite now.He isnt that good. the only reason benfica wants him is because he is so young and is improving. Maybe in a couple of years freddy will b good enough to make an impact on the world of futbol but md not now. Especially if he stays in the mls. Although tht may b the best spot for him now.

Guys did you not see him and jozy Altidore in the u-20 world cup.

On fox soccer channel they said that Freddy Adu's deal was pretty much finalized and Freddy will be moving to benefica.

Great thinking! That ralley breaks the mold!
