Gerrard Likes Being In The Middle
(Soccer365.com) Steven Gerrard has made it clear where he wants to play for Liverpool this season - at the heart of midfield.
The Reds' skipper has had a successful pre-season thus far, scoring in their Rotterdam Tournament clash with Feyenoord, and impressing from the middle of the park on the club's Asian tour.
And Gerrard - who spent large parts of last season out on the right wing - thinks he is best used in the middle:
"I've played a lot of pre-season in the centre of midfield, and I've really enjoyed it," said Gerrard. "The manager knows that's where I want to play.
"We've got a big squad with a lot of good players and a lot of competition for places.
"There's a lot of football and I know I'll get my chance in the middle, but that's where I enjoy playing the most and where I believe I have the most to offer for the team.
Gerrard may get his wish, with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez strengthening their flanks significantly in the summer, with the purchases of Ryan Babel from Ajax and Yossi Benayoun from West Ham.
And this new blood has left Gerrard confident that this could finally be Liverpool's year.
"I don't want to say anything stupid before the start of the season, but we've got to be ready from the off," he said. "There's no getting away from it.
"Whether we're ready or not, only time will tell. But what I can say is that we have trained hard, we feel as though we are ready.
"Now it's up to myself and the rest of the players to go out and do it."

Everybody likes STevieG in the middle!! I sure hope Rafa got himself enough wingers to keep Gerrard in the middle of the pitch. Give me Kuyt/Torres up top with StevieG playing right behind them and Alonso back in the middle too. then Benitez you can rotate the flanks to your little hearts delight!

torres up top will be good, but i say play crouch instead of Kuyt for real success

no name, I think you're right. Crouch is a very good hold up striker and can be impossible to mark in the air. Torres will be able to make some runs off of Crouch. Don't sleep on Vronin either. He can score.

Torres has proved he has a difficult time playing under pressure. If he does excel it will be because his compatriot is the coach and will help him along the way with the culture difference in England. He is a good player but don't expect him to fill the nets with balls. I wish him luck but he has to mature and grab the bull by the horns. Maybe a run in pamplona with the bulls would help him do that. Good luck Torres I wish you the best and I hope I'm wrong.

I disagree i think Kuyt would do a better job then crouch and Pete would do a better job off the bench then kuyt would off the bench. I mean sure peter can head the ball well but kuyt has alot of creativity up top tht will help liverpool. StevieG playing in the center of the midfield is an excellent idea. And He should excel there
