Philipp Lahm confused by 'two Beckenbauers'

(Soccer365.com) Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm has hit out at club president Franz Beckenbauer for being two-faced.

Lahm was one of the players criticised by Beckenbauer in his weekly column in a leading German newspaper for failing to emulate the form he showed at the 2006 World Cup.

His Bayern team-mates Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski also came in for heavy criticism in Beckenbauer's column.

And Lahm told Kicker magazine: "There has got to be two Beckenbauers - one who writes in the newspaper and the other who is president of FC Bayern.

"The president seems to be happy with me, but the columnist is apparently less so.

"I don't think I am a problem case, but then which Beckenbauer was it: the president or the columnist?"

Lahm shone at the World Cup and was linked with many of Europe's leading clubs, including Chelsea and Barcelona, after the tournament.

He has kept his place for club and country and feels he has improved over the last 18 months.

"I am satisfied with my development," added the 24-year-old. "I am ambitious and always want to improve and play in a team who can win the championship and Champions League."
