Sir Alex Not Blaming Cristiano Ronaldo

(Soccer365.com) Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson refused to blame Cristiano Ronaldo for his side's failure to score an away goal at Barcelona.

The Scot revealed he thought the winger would score, but added: "He's a bit unlucky. Maybe it's come too early."

Of the second penalty incident, he said: "You're doing well to get one penalty kick. To ask for another one... I wasn't surprised."

Ferguson was pleased with his side's defending but felt they could have created more at the other end.

Describing United's performance as "professional", he said: "We sealed off the areas where teams don't normally do well against Barcelona.

"They didn't make a lot of chances. Our concentration defending the space was very good.

"We should have done better with our possession. We had opportunities to counter-attack and gave the ball away too easily."

But he added: "0-0 gives us a marvellous chance."

Ferguson singled out midfielder Paul Scholes, making his 100th Champions League appearance, for special praise.

"I thought he was one of our best players. His reading of the play outside the box was terrific. His interceptions were marvellous and he never gave the ball away."

United played without key defender Nemanja Vidic, who was ruled out by an upset stomach.

He remains a doubt for Saturday's Premier League title showdown with Chelsea.

"We think he's doubtful. We'll do our best," said Ferguson, who confirmed the Serb's condition had improved.

"Let's hope we can get him there on Saturday morning - he'll be desperate to play."

yea your writ

That is ridiculous. Barca had 65% possession and couldnt score lol?!?! ManU played a brilliant game, and Barca are lucky ManU didnt get an away goal. I think ManU seals the deal at Old Trafford on the return leg. Barca's only hope is that Messi is on form

manu played a brilliant my foot with 12men playing defence, when did you ever see them play like that tell when. they wre scared of barce. every man on barce is a level above manu. ronnie and tevez a lost. what wre you guys watching on 4/23/08 not the same game

I agree with nate. Barca really only had a handful of glaring chances. Next week they'll have Vidic back so united will be able to play a their game. Anyways United have not lost at home since the game against portsmouth in which they lost on a pk that should never have been called and had their clear penalty turned down. Old Trafford will be electric. Can't wait

nate and redevil yes playing with so much defenders it take a good team to get chances
and find space .so let them play the way there going at chelsea on 4/26/08. thats what we wants space to hit them. please go to goal.com read sacchi about cl.
