Eto'o was one of the three high-profile Barca players who were told their services were no longer required at the Nou Camp, with the others being Ronaldinho and Deco.

But while Ronaldinho has joined AC Milan and Deco at Chelsea, Eto'o has remained with the Catalans and, after impressing in the pre-season, Guardiola has decided the Cameroon international's future lies with Barca.

Barca issued a statement saying: "Josep Guardiola has explained in the press conference for the game against Wisla Krakow that Samuel Eto'o will continue one more season as an azulgrana (Barca player).

"The azulgrana coach has announced that that it is a decision taken 'by the desire of the player and by myself."
