Berbatov, ManUtd Sinks Celtic

Dimitar Berbatov bagged his second Champions League brace for Manchester United in their 3-0 Group E victory over Celtic at Old Trafford on Tuesday, despite some controversial decisions surrounding the Bulgarian's finishes.

United dominated the attack in the opening stages with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney making an impact up front.

The Bhoys responded with a close chance through Aiden McGeady's 11th-minute strike but goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar did well to turn the low drive outside his upright. The big Dutchman was soon called upon again as he managed to tip Gary Caldwell's goal-bound volley over the crossbar.

The Red Devils snatched the lead in the 30th minute with Berbatov stabbing the ball home past Artur Boruc after Celtic struggled to deal with United's corner. Replays suggested the hitman was in an offside position.

The 51st minute saw United double their lead. Ronaldo sent a free kick over the wall which Boruc fumbled and Berbatov made sure he was available to tap in the loose ball. Again replays revealed Berbatov was offside.

Just two minutes later Rooney slotted home for the hosts, but his effort was disallowed as he was incorrectly ruled offside. However, he managed to earn a place on the scoresheet, making it seven goals in a row for club and country, by placing a superb low shot into the bottom corner and sealing the win for Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
